Happy Monday to You All

Cedar hollow from felling on property

That cedar situation was one of those “just in time” moments. It was massive and my son wanted it down for months since it was in the way of a parking area. We hated the idea of it coming down, but good thing it did. The inside of this massive tree was hollow and the top was top-heavy. They crew said it was severely hollowed all the way up and dangerous. With our extreme gusty winds, he said it could have gone down in the next huge storm. He said it was a time-bomb waiting to happen. The other pine across the property was slowly dying from the top down from age and stress, so it came down today as well. It had already lost half the top. In the parks where I host, we call these widow makers and keep an eye on them. It sure opened up space on the property. My son is out there there cutting down more alders - fast grow, fast go trees. They are very invasive here and fall fast since they don't root deep. I've been moving non-stop daily with hauling, planting, cleaning, food prepping, selling off excess inventory, dump runs, prepping my trailer for movement, trip to Oregon to buy a recliner and shop... Yesterday, my poor truck finally got a bath and a lot of mold off it. In our region, it's normal for green to grow on everything since it's a wetlands. Of course, mid-way, it began raining, but I kept going. I wanted to pop in and say happy Monday and hope everyone has been well. I'm headed to catch up.

It doesn't sound like you're having fun right now. I'm sure getting those two pines down are a load off both your minds, though.

It's a lot here and my minimalistic life kind of went poof. I don't mind helping though. It is a relief for sure.

@noni1959 I paid our older neighbor for the next three times he mows our yard and made two doctor appointments this morning before I went to sleep this morning. I don't think there's anything else I have to do this week other than general cleaning and washing dirty dishes.

@DaddyEvil It sounds like a good more calm week for you. I have places to go and things to do, but it should be more evened out and not rushed. I hope your day was good.

I remember when we had to take down some trees. I was not happy, but they were hollow inside and dangerous for the house. Insurance does not pay if you have been negligent and suspected a tree had a problem.

I'm glad you cut the tree down before it fell over on its own. You've been busy. I'm glad you're getting settled in your new home.

There is something every day. I do a lot of my son's admin stuff and lately, been selling and donating a lot of items for him to downsize. We've been getting the flowers and roses done around the house but so much to do with the whole property.

@noni1959 I'm working on downsizing as well. Planning in advance in case I have to go to assisted living some day.

that's really hollow and i'm glad you got rid of it; i just wish they didn't charge you so much, if they did. you are a very busy bee and don't forget to take a rest , if you can

They charged less than others, but still pricey. My son was out cutting the sides of the stump and the insides are hollow all the way down. It's crazy how lucky we are.

@valherma00 This is my son's house and property. I have my own bedroom and a flex room on the end of the house for me. He asked me to live with him.

Did you get rid of all of the damaged trees. We had to cut down two when we bought this house ten years ago.

so far, those were the two that were dangerous and would cause damage. My son has taken out a lot of alders and we have a bunch more on one of the acres were are going to take out. They are shallow, invasive and fall/break easy in storms.

That was truly a huge tree, but as big as it was around it had a huge hollow space running up it. Glad that it is down-one less worry for you.

Us too. It rains here a lot and the ground is soaked quite a bit. To know the roots weren't as sturdy too, was scary.

I decided last year to get rid of two Bradford Pear trees. I hated to, but I am really glad I did because we have some terrible storms lately.

It's so hard to let go of some trees. It was so hard to see this one come down, but had to be done.

That's a busy time you're having. We have widow-makers here too. The lemon-scented gum is notorious for dropping limbs.

I just looked up this tree. I read it is used in essential oils. It's a neat looking tree.

@JudyEv I looked it up and realized what they are. They were called eucalyptus species. They are considered invasive and with drought issues, they really try to get them removed since they are very flammable.

@noni1959 I think maybe they grow them in California. It is a very lovely tree with very smooth bark.
