Fast Weekends

Thank goodness! I finally made it to Friday! But at what cost? Monday is literally in 30 minutes. Have you ever felt that way? Where your work week drags on for what feels like a month, and then you finally make it to the weekend, only to blink and find that it's over and you have to go back to work again? I often feel that way. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy my weekends and make the most of them, and I do consider myself lucky because I only have to work half days on Fridays so I get a little extra early jump into my weekend, but goodness gracious why do weekends fly by so quickly? I think that whoever invented work should have given us a 2-day work week and a 5-day weekend! Now that's something I could really get excited about! What say you? Do you feel your weekends fly by too quickly?

If the first day of the week is actually Sunday and not Monday, why is Sunday part of the weekend and not Friday?

That is an imponderable we may never be able to answer. But I can somewhat say that Friday is part of my weekend since I only work half days. But, gee, while. we're discussing it, give me Thursday as part of the weekend as well! LOL

@moffittjc I have always thought that the first day of the week is Monday. I don’t get why it’s Sunday.

@lovebuglena I'm sure that's a question no one can answer. Well, I'm sure we could ask AI and it will give us an answer, but in reality there is no reason why Monday shouldn't be the first day of the week.

Because of how active I am, I don't expect my retirement to be much different now than my working life, although there will probably be less pressure and less deadlines and obligations. But my weekends (and my weeks) will probably still fly by in a flash because of all the fun stuff I'll be doing. I have quite a bucket list of stuff that will probably keep me busy for years and years.

@LindaOHio I already do that! LOL. But yeah, more Disney time is on my bucket list. I think the two most ambitious things on my bucket list are hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, and walking the entire coastline of Florida.

I know exactly what you mean. Some weeks are just so long and the weekend is over in the blink of an eye. I don't always understand why this is sometimes. But it does happen.

I try to make my workweeks interesting and not mundane, so that it's not only weekends that I have fun, but in reality there are limitations due to work requirements. But I do try!

It has been a busy week, on Monday we had to bring to the Public Office the Swiss driver license of my husband, on Tuesday we went back to collect the new Italian one. Wednesday we had another appointment and Thursday we went shopping in Switzerland, because I needed a few things I cannot find here. It has been a "fast" week.

In truth, I sometimes have "fast" weeks as well, so it's not always just the weekends that fly by in the blink of an eye.

I'm glad you support me in a 2-day workweek and a 5-day weekend. If you could please send me a letter of support that I could show my boss, then I think he will have no choice but to honor the request! haha

The best job I ever had, I was scheduled four days a week for work. I loved having that 3day break. Granted, there was paperwork to do and I did it, but I got it done within the four working days. And yes, the days were long but it was still worth it to me.

For about half of my 20-year career with the municipality I worked at I did 4-day workweeks. I loved having 3-day weekends! At first, those 10-hour workdays seemed to drag on, but over time I got used to it. And the funny thing is, when they forced us to go back to a 5-day work week, I cheated and made it so I only worked half a day on Friday. My boss would have killed me if he ever figured it out, but I got away with it all the way up until I retired. lol

@MarieCoyle I know it's different for each person, by my productivity at work ebbed and flowed in waves. I would be super productive early in the morning, and then it would ebb by the early afternoon. But then by around 5pm (normal quitting time) I would get super productive again, so for me it made sense to keep working those extra few hours, especially since I was in a super productive state. So, for me, those 10-hour days made perfect sense. And, like you said, the thought that I only had to be there 4 days instead of 5 was a major boost!

@moffittjc I think many people would be way more productive at work if they knew they could have a 4 day work week. It helps so much when a person has a family.

I’m retired, so every day is part of the weekend. But when I worked, YES. Worse, the three-day weekends seemed even shorter!!!

@moffittjc -- try to convince yourself that you live to work. Three-day weekends mess you up for three weeks: the week before the weekend, you're anticipating; the week OF the weekend, you're thinking Tuesday is Monday; and the week AFTER the weekend, you're messed up because you're back to a two-day weekend!

I agree! You'd get really excited for an upcoming 3-day weekend, and then next thing you know it's over faster than the 2-day weekends. We really need to invent a way to slow down time on weekends!

@wolfgirl569 I tend to hang with a younger crowd, so even when I retire I'll still be interacting with much younger people who are all still working. Unless I win the lottery, then I will pay them all not to work so that we can all hang out and have fun together! lol

I think the one thing that will still keep me on a week versus weekend schedule when I retire is that all my friends and loved ones will still be working, so I'll still have to somewhat keep to their schedules.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I do the same thing since I only work half days on Fridays. I will do all my laundry, clean the house and do other chores, and run errands around town. I try to knock all that out on Fridays so that I have full Saturdays and Sundays to do fun stuff.

I enjoyed working from home during Covid when everything was shut down, but I don't know if I could do it all the time. I'm very active and like to get outside as much as possible. If I worked from home all the time, eventually my work life and personal life would mesh together into one, and I really wouldn't want that.

I figure that once I retire things will even out somewhat, but to a little degree I will somewhat still be tied to a workweek and weekend schedule because all my friends and loved ones will still be working, so I will kind of have to follow their schedules somewhat unless I choose to do things solo.

@moffittjc But... but when you get a bit older again, maybe more of your friends and loved ones will have rretired too and you'll all be in the same boat. You might still be tied to children's schedules.
