We’re going back 70 years in musical time for another song. Actually, today’s song goes back 86 years, but not this version. This is the the version most of us are familiar with, and definitely the obvious version. So let’s celebrate a 1956 classic!
Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino
Did you know Gene Autry (yes, the cowboy, the guy who originally sang “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and the guy who owned the California Angels) recorded this in 1941?! And even that wasn’t the original. Glenn Miller and his orchestra had a huge hit with it in 1940, but his version was two weeks too late to be the first recording. That distinction went to Sammy Kaye.
Since then, this song has been recorded over 300 times in multiple genres, from polka (Jimmy Sturr) to country (Loretta Lynn) to blues (Slim Harpo) to everything in between. And most of us come back to this recording by Antoine “Fats” Domino for our thrill.
And for good reason.

I do quite like this song
Fats Domino.
Hard to believe it's 70 years ago.
I wasn't even born yet already

This is his “signature song.” I think most popular artists have one, and this would certainly be Domino’s.

@FourWalls - Yes, all popular artists have a signature song. For Sinatra it was surely "My Way".

I had no idea that so many had covered this song, but for me, it belongs to Fats Domino. It’s just one of those timeless classics.

I know what you mean. Most people don’t know that Janis Joplin was the tenth person to cover “Me and Bobbie McGee,” and they probably don’t care because that’s Janis’s song.

Fats Domino was my favorite when it comes to Blueberry Hill. Certainly blows my mind to think it dates all the way back to 1956
