Reach the top and ring the bell

The photo shows a rock-climbing frame which entertained the kids at Nungarin Military Museum. I didn’t see any adults attempting the climb. There is a slightly darker section towards the top where the frame angles out, adding to the difficulty.
Climbers are fitted with a harness and a handler on the ground belays (if that’s the right word) the climber so if they slip, they won’t come tumbling down. At the top of the frame is a bell. When/If they reach the top, they ring the bell and the onlookers all cheer and give them a clap. They are then lowered to the ground by means of the rope.
I’m sure they never had such fun things around when I was a kid!

There's a lot of that in here. It's really fun and young ones like to do that here every weekend.

@toniganzon I guess that's what ours are. I just worded it badly. They're not real rocks, just hand and foot holds.

Thank goodness we never had anything like that around when I was a kid. It was bad enough when my older brothers climbed the huge oak trees in the front yard on the farm! Mom would scream at them to climb back down and keep telling them to be careful until they reached the ground. (I'd only climb to the lower limbs and then down again. I hated heights and still do!)2 people like this

@JudyEv We had a cottonwood tree in the front yard on the farm. I climbed in it and used baling twine to make a hammock between two limbs and fell asleep in the tree a lot. Mom told me I looked safe enough that she'd allow me to sleep there if I wanted. One of my older and much larger brothers later told me mom had him climb the tree and see how sturdy my hammock was. He jumped up and down in it and, when it didn't break with him in it, mom stopped worrying.

@DaddyEvil The older style baling twine would eventually rot but the stuff I make my mats from must have some nylon iin it as there is no way you can break it with your hands.

There weren't climbing walls around when I was a kid. I couldn't take the heights.

i haven't experienced this as a kid as well and not sure if i want to relive it as an adult person. i rather leave it to the kids
but, a nice photo and enjoyment for younger ones.
