Reach the top and ring the bell

The photo shows a rock-climbing frame which entertained the kids at Nungarin Military Museum. I didn’t see any adults attempting the climb. There is a slightly darker section towards the top where the frame angles out, adding to the difficulty.
Climbers are fitted with a harness and a handler on the ground belays (if that’s the right word) the climber so if they slip, they won’t come tumbling down. At the top of the frame is a bell. When/If they reach the top, they ring the bell and the onlookers all cheer and give them a clap. They are then lowered to the ground by means of the rope.
I’m sure they never had such fun things around when I was a kid!

Thank goodness we never had anything like that around when I was a kid. It was bad enough when my older brothers climbed the huge oak trees in the front yard on the farm! Mom would scream at them to climb back down and keep telling them to be careful until they reached the ground. (I'd only climb to the lower limbs and then down again. I hated heights and still do!)1 person likes this

There's a lot of that in here. It's really fun and young ones like to do that here every weekend.

There weren't climbing walls around when I was a kid. I couldn't take the heights.

I'm probably too large to rock-climb, but I think I would like it. We didn't have these as kids. Kids have everything today.
