Growing Spring Onions

Here I am again replanting my food so I do not have to buy them again. These spring onions grow rapidly. I bought some for our Easter bulgogi and I immersed the remaining root and stem in water and 3 days after it is like this already. Even the day after, they were already starting to grow back. I may need to repot them soon for my endless supply of spring onions.

I also liked to grow spring onions in the garden. I have to see if I can install on the garden a container where to grow a few things.

You definitely can. I have no garden of my own as me and my husband are renting at the moment. We left our home in Bath to be closer to his work. So I am buying things like grow bags for my plants and I am researching a lot about hydroponics. Even our water bottles can be pots.

@flapiz - We also rented here, we sold our big house in Switzerland and we thought that, at our age, it was less a hassle to rent and having nothing to care about.

@LadyDuck yes it is more practical really. Although I miss having freedom to plant direct on soil. And I guess my friends in Bath. We do go back to check on the house from time to time. We want to rent it out soon so we can at least earn from it and help pay the mortgage at least cause now we pay rent and mortgage it is a bit heavy.

I grow lots of things in water, too! It’s amazing how fast they grow. I am going to try grow bags for potatoes this year.

@DianneN I am only just learning as well. I have so much time in my hands as I recently moved so I am still job hunting.

@flapiz That’s great! I have nothing to plant until I return to my house in Connecticut, which is east of NY. It’s a rewarding hobby for sure! Keep enjoying it. I’m still learning as I go.

Yes it is pretty cool. I know it doesn’t cost much in the market but savings is still savings and you would get the pleasure and pride of watching them grow.

@flapiz the savings is great but I think you're right about the thrill of watching your onions grow.

I am still debating on that. My friend told me to repot. But I am still researching if I can grow it through hydroponics.

@flapiz let me know what you decide .... I have some spring onions as the supermarket was selling them at 8p a bunch over Easter so I have the roots I could place in water. However, I bought some seeds two weeks ago which I will plant next week when I get home . Maybe I should experiment with both ways ....

@Traceyjayne yes you should and if you film it you can even start a Facebook reel or YouTube video. I like watching and following plant experiments.

Yes, they need to be potted but you can just use a shallow dish with water in it if you want and just eat the green tops in your cooking.

I have heard vloggers on the internet suggesting we have to learn to grow our own food since a food crisis is around the corner due to wars.

They might be onto something. The price of food is increasing now. Wars is bad for the economy.

I love to grow spring onions, but I'm not sure if it would grow, because that of my neighbor is dying.

That’s so satisfying to see! Spring onions really grow fast, and it’s nice knowing you can just regrow them instead of buying again.
