Or bless my neighbor's hearts. A couple of them have joined together and taken down that huge cedar that started splitting up last fall. It was hot today and they worked really hard. The one neighbor has an old farm truck or whatever and he took several loads to our local burn pile. That makes me safer and happier for sure. I offered to pay, at the very least for gas if nothing else, and the one person said if I paid him it would steal his joy. I never thought I would be a little old lady that everyone would have to rescue and help. I probably should have paid a tree service months ago, but you know, I get busy looking after Bob and the cats. and something like that would cost thousands of bucks. I pray for them and am thankful for the blessings.

Little old lady, my foot. You’re a little capable lady that needed a break, and your neighbors saw a chance to be a blessing.

The man that had the big truck and the no how would not even let me give him gas money because he said it would steal his joy.

@GardenGerty We all do I suspect. I am but a mere bairn compared to a lot on here at 65 And I feel my age too sometimes I never thought I would ever be 75 so feeling it is a bonus

it is great that the cedar is gone considering the condition it was. In my country, we need permits to remove trees and it could be a pain with the documentation and the removal can only be done by the authority which could take weeks unless the tree is on the verge of collasping.

There are more restrictions in larger communities but this tree was broken and falling on things so it needed to go.

I'm glad they had the time and thought to help you out. The older neighbor keeps sending one of his sons over to help us when we have something I can't do anymore. Sometime his son will accept money and sometimes he won't. We always thank him whenever he has time, at least.

Mr. Mackey, Don, and his wife Glenda are close to my age. John, who started sawing pieces out is at least ten years younger than them, but Don says he and John both have heart conditions. Glenda even came and raked the yard and helped Don, I think to keep an eye on him and take care of him. I want to maybe get the guys some nice work gloves and Glenda a pair of "gardener's sleeves" as she does lots of gardening. Just small "thank you" gifts.

That is such a kind thing for them to do and I know what he is saying about payment stealing his joy. Are you able to make him a cake or some cookies one day maybe?

I think that I will get some good work gloves for the two men, and then the wife that was over helping I will probably get some "gardening sleeves" like I got for myself.

@GardenGerty That sounds like ideal 'thank you' gifts. Very appropriate. Gardening sleeves can save a lot of scratches, can't they?

@GardenGerty My daughter and son in law bought a home several years ago. Of course the home was inspected, etc. and it's been fine. About a year after they moved in, they discovered that the absolutely huge oak tree in their backyard was full of carpenter ants and most of the trunk was destroyed by them. The yard is tight, getting it taken down was a huge project. They got bids, etc. and you are correct, it was thousands to get it down and removed. A big hit they were not counting on.

Thank God you got it taken care of or should I say God had it taken care of for you, just like he helped us with our trees.

How very kind of them to band together like that and help another good neighbour as yourself. I am certain that over the years that you found yourself in their place, now you need to be the gracious acceptor.
