A marriage in the family.

Hello dear lotters. A couple of days ago I opened my whatsapp and found a message from my eldest granddaughter telling me that she was getting married. I messaged back asking all sorts of things. I haven´t talked with her for months and apparently she has no time for me. She then sent me a bigger message with a photo of her hand with a ring in one of her fingers. And later on she sent me a very elegant invitation to a wedding that will be almost royalty. Among the things in the invitation it said "dress code formal". In English instead of Spanish. Weird, I thought. I don´t know if we will have to dress in silk and velvet or if the sentence means that her friends should get something better than those pants that show the underwear near the waist. I do worry about my attire though. I don´t have decent shoes because my feet only accept sneackers or flip flops. And the wedding is in May which means COLD. I do have a very politically incorrect fur coat, one that my Dad gave to my Mom maybe 40 yars ago. It is the most beautiful silver fox and I have always wondered why can´t we use it if the animals used were dead decades before people changed their views about using animal´s fur for clothing. What do you think about it? I could buy a pair of boots maybe, depending on what I decide to wear. And I have some ancient elegant garments that are ageless. As you see, friends, my life lately has not been filled with prfound philosophical thoughts. See you

I´m planning to dress and behave like Royalty. I hope she learns what she is missing by not coming to visit me.

@marguicha Amen, you can be anything you want in this world, but not without your good mom.

@marguicha Hopefully things go great for you. I always detest any thought behind these "Dress Codes" in Events. Can't people just be what they want to be? Would you have to go to a far off place to attend the marriage?

The elegant fox fur sounds perfect, buy comfortable shoes, boots are difficult to wear and to take off, particularly if your feet swell. I imagine that "dress code formal" is to avoid to see her friends dressed in jeans and casual T-shirts. We did not need to ask anything like that when we got married. People knew better how to dress.

You are right. I remember decades ago when some tourists could not go into the casino because of their garments. They were not Chilean people; we knew how to dress. I am not going to revive those foxes by not wearing the coat and it is beautiful, elegant and as light as a fearher parka.

@marguicha - We knew how to dress, even to go out in the afternoon to watch a film, we wanted to be elegant. My Mom was always very elegant, with her black mink fur and a grey mink hat.

You wear what is comfortable for you. She'll either understand or have a reason not to ever visit you again. I'm sure, whatever you choose will look lovely with you wearing it.

Wear the shoes you are comfortable in. If you have a long dress it will hide your feet anyways

You will look awesome regardless of what you wear. I don't know about the coat. Some people are still very sensitive to someone wearing real fur. I would wear my sneakers if that's what's comfortable. I dressed up for a wedding; but had to wear my "sensible" shoes. I worry about falling.

Well I wouldn't be worrying about political correctness to be honest. It was your mum's coat So it belonged to your grand daughters great grand mother I would wear it, it belongs at that wedding

I hope you can go and enjoy yourself. I know you’ll look absolutely wonderful no matter what you wear. Let’s just hope your feet have a solution that is comfortable.

Congratulations to your granddaughter! I hope she finds all her happiness. So you can decide. I found this online. Various types of boots can be suitable for a wedding, depending on the dress code and theme. Types of Boots: Ankle Boots: Sleek and polished options work well for formal settings . Knee-High Boots: These can add elegance, especially in cooler weather . Chelsea Boots: A stylish choice that pairs well with dresses or skirts . Cowboy Boots: Ideal for rustic or country-themed weddings, adding a personal touch . Considerations: Dress Code: Ensure the boots align with the formality of the event . Condition: Choose clean and well-maintained boots to maintain a polished look .

Please don't worry about what you are going to wear or your shoes, etc. Where feet are concerned, safety has come before fashion. The main thing is that you can go and see her get married, and enjoy your time there.
