A face on a tree

The photo was taken by Vince and shows a face on a tree. We walk the dog each day along a walkway which runs between a number of houses and a creek. Each day we find more and more things at which to marvel. (See what I did there, @AmbiePam?) We both like this face which we saw on a dead tree. I think the eyes at least have been added but I’m not sure about the nose and mouth. What do you think would be a good name for him? I’m sorry this is a bit short. I’ll try to do better tomorrow.

I wonder how much of it started as knotholes but were "enhanced" by some ingenious person? I keep thinking either George or Sam and can't make up my mind.

I'm pretty sure the features have been enhanced but they've done a great job. I'd probably go for George.

I absolutely love the ingenuity the people who live around there have. I’d be giddy staying there! Then again, maybe I’m finding out I’m Australian at heart.

I'm always intrigued by these finds and can't wait to share them. That would be lovely if you had a bit of Australian in you. The test would be if you could say 'G'day, mate'. Start practising! lol

I think that the eyes have been added, but also the mouth and nose "enhanced" to give a more real look.

I think you are right. There is no obvious glue or fixtures but the eyes in particular don't really look like they just appeared there.

Sort of spontaneous art. Sometimes these are very good and others just grafitti

@JudyEv Same here, just about any surface gets covered. Having said that, just by Waterloo Station is the Banksy Tunnel where grafitti is allowed. There are very good art pieces, but they are barely dry when the repainting begins!

@JudyEv Yes, just about any surface gets painted on. Having said that near by Waterloo Station is the Banksy Tunnel, where grafitti is encourage. There are some excellent pieces, but they are barely dry before being painted over.
Underneath the rail lines out of Waterloo Station is a 300 metre long tunnel, now known as Leake Street. In the 1960s it was used for storing wine, but today is...

May be "Gandalfine" - based on the character of Gandalf : Lord of the Rings The Tree looks like some of the walking & talking trees that appeared in The Lord of The Rings Part 2 : The Twin Towers. Quite an interesting find.

I wish I had that kind of talent. I'd name that tree Gertie, I always think of trees as female.

You're correct but then who painted it there, a woman? I was thinking of trees in general.

That is so cute! It reminds me of a “lizard” I saw on the side of the road near the zoo: it was a fallen tree branch that someone had decorated to appear to be a large lizard or katydid.

@JudyEv — supposedly, it’s the sound they make…like they’re saying “Katy did.” There are clips of their sound on YouTube, and I honestly don’t hear it. Meanwhile, there’s the Porter Wagoner song “Katy Did.”

The nose seems to look like it is part of the barn, as it is running in the same direction, but maybe changed a bit, and the mouth and eyes look like they were added. I think that I would name him Dwight the Delighter, something to delight walkers passing by.

It has to be 'made' but it's hard to see what they've actually done. There's no sign of glue or nails.

@JudyEv I think that with those the nails are on the backside of the pieces, the eyes and so on, and you take a cover to protect the eyes and then hammer it in that way.
