Let's Discuss Seasons and Menus

The weather has switched to spring. I love the transitionary seasons, time to shed the layers of clothing, spend more time outside, and change what we eat. Our weather this past couple of weeks has been very nice. We've changed what we eat and are shifting to a warmer weather menu. At least once a week, we are now having wraps with deli cold meats freshly sliced cheeses and fresh vegetables. The side dishes are changing also. Today I quickly whipped up a creamy macaroni salad. My husband loved it, and ate almost the entire batch-I don't like pasta salads, and had a garden salad instead. Have you changed your eating habits with the arrival of the new season, or will you? ~Photo is mine

I’m definitely drinking more water, and I thought I already drank a lot of water. It’s been so hot here for so long already though that I have been eying the salads for awhile. I had a lovely chicken salad the other day, and it really hit the proverbial spot.

@AmbiePam Last night I tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep as I was stressing about the actual flight. My husband, and son and family leave very early Saturday morning. They will arrive hours before check in time. Our son has contacted the hotel complex and they can drop off their luggage, and then they will go to a butterfly conservatory, which takes about the same amount of time to go through as they need to wait until check in time. On the next day they will meet up with me after I settle in, and on Monday is whale watching. The babies are so excited, they facetime with me on my lunch break from work every day and hold up how many fingers until their airplane ride.

You have had heat longer than we have. I dislike the heat, and it tanks my appetite. We both have deli meats and cheeses that we need to eat for our lunches today and tomorrow so that they do not spoil while we are away. I can't believe that the trip is just 2 days away.

Yes, I absolutely switch from all those heavy winter meals of soups, stews, chili etc. I actually fired up the barbecue grill recently to do some chicken and had it with garden salad. We'll be eating more of that type of meal as the weather continues to get warmer.

Last night we had a nice welcome to spring meal-hey, I should have titled my post today's good mood is brought to you by a spring meal. Can you believe that I leave in just 2 more days for my trip? It felt so far off last December when I first received the trip. The babies are so excited, today they asked Grandpa what will happen to their friends (from playgroup) won't they be sad and miss them when they are not there next week? They are started to grasp time frames now.

@Juliaacv we should start our posts by today's good mood themes. It would be fun to see what everyone comes up with. Gosh 2 days before you're off. Its cute that the twins are grasping time frames now and so curious with their questions.

Yes, indeed. We went from chili and heavy meals to cottage cheese, avocados and fruit. We are eating a little heavy these last few days because of the rain and chillies days. Right now we are having a raging thunderstorm. It is wonderful.

I have to confess that I do not like cantaloupe, watermelon I like if it is in a fruit salad. Fresh fruits and vegetables will not be in season here for quite some time. I am happy to be finished with the heavy stews and meals of chili.

I don't see a huge difference with menus according to the season. We're also so comfortable inside whatever the weather that the food doesn't change much. We do have more salads and fresh fruits in our summers though.

@JudyEv I do love our seasons, and the foods that go along with each of them. It always feels refreshing to change seasons.

Our winters are so cold, and this past one was that and long. We have been eating chili and lasagna and stews and soups for a number of months now.

@Juliaacv We don't have the freezing cold winters that you do although we do tend to have more stews and soups in the winter.

I try to cook less hot meals and more cold plates, devilled eggs and things like that. I am rolling these foods into our rotation as the weather warms.

We have frozen yogurt in an ice cream cone every evening, but we do that 365 days of the year. A cold plate was so nice last night.

Yes, we are also switching to less hot meals, more salads, tuna salad, mozzarella and tomatoes. We both do not like pasta salad, but we like the Italian rice salad with tuna, olives and vegetables.
