What a fireworks show last night! I heard a lot of it, but I didn’t watch. I certainly didn’t go and deal with half a million drunk, freezing people!
I’ll be heading over to Lexington today, so this song is appropriate. Back 70 years we go to today’s song.
The Wayward Wind - Gogi Grant
I love this song. It has nothing to do with the prominent French horn and the fact that I played French horn in junior high school band.
No, it’s a weird mashup of western-themed lyrics (this has been voted one of the greatest western songs of all time) and a definite pop delivery.
Gogi Grant (née Myrtle Arinsberg) had two major hits: this one, which was #1 everywhere, and “Suddenly, There’s a Valley.” She came along at the wrong time, just as rock and roll was taking off. This song remains, though, a shining example of a great song in any era.

I thought you might be more familiar with Frank Ifield’s version, Judy?

I’m pretty sure it would have to have been a long time ago, because this isn’t getting played these days.

You didn't really expect us to know this one, did you?

Actually, I did expect it from Hubby, given that Patsy Cline and Tex Ritter had covered it.

@FourWalls I probably remember the Tex Ritter version. I hear him singing it in my head right now.

You are hitting lots of songs that I heard a lot as a youngster. I would have been really little when this first came out, so I may be remembering it as a theme song from a movie or something. I remember it sung by a man.

You’re right….it does sound like something that someone would sing while looking out the window, watching wind-blown objects fly by.

I am more familiar with the Frank Ifield version. He was a favourite of my mother, so I heard it a lot.

No, I celebrated at home. I’m in Lexington visiting with my niece.
The crowd issue also explains why I get the heck out of Dodge come Derby time…which is now next week.

I honestly had never heard of this singer. But I have heard the Patsy Cline version. ( I love me some Patsy Cline!)
