I don’t know if this is going to work.

So you might remember me talking about Lyrica, a medication for nerve pain (I have fibromyalgia) my pain management doctor put me on. He said it might make me sleepy, so the first three days just take one on the morning. After that, I should take one morning and night. He said the sleepiness would probably wear off. I’m not sure how much more sleep I can take. How long should I give it?
I am seeing the cardiologist this afternoon, so maybe she’ll help me.

The meds they have me on since my heart attack make me endlessly tired. I can certainly feel for you.

@AmbiePam Hopefully they can eventually be reduced. I have never taken meds on a regular basis. It is an adjustment.

I’d call the office and tell them you can’t stay awake, and ask if there’s a lower dose. If it’s not helping the pain that much you might want to ask for something else. The sad thing is you might find better relief from the fibromyalgia pain with lidocaine patches; however, (a) they’re expensive, and (b) medical insurance won’t cover them because they’re only “approved” to treat shingles. (How’d you like to slap an adhesive patch on a shingles scar?
) However, the lidocaine ointment (which the VA has switched me to) might be something to try. It certainly won’t make you sleepy!

@AmbiePam — the thing I love about lidocaine is you can put it right where it hurts and not have to worry about it getting through your system to get relief to what aches. But it may not be for everyone.

We aren't doctors here. I think asking the pharmacist is a good idea, because you never know how soon it will be until the doctor calls you back.

I really don't know. You should have asked him when he gave you the prescription. Or talk to your pharmacist about it.

I would just chat with the pharmacist, then.

I sure hope you can get adjusted and that the med will help you. Maybe your heart doc will have some advice.

I hope the cardiologist is able to help with that question. I don't have any idea but maybe a pharmacist would be knowledgeable. I'm sure it will take a little bit of time for it to start working

I was once suffering from hallucination once and the doctor prescribed medicine for the nerves. I felt drowsy the whole day even after sleeping for long hours.
