Our hotel room in Nungarin

The photo shows our hotel room in Nungarin where we stayed at Easter. W were there to see the old World War II searchlight in operation. It’s an old country hotel with no ensuites but toilets and showers down the corridor. There was a wardrobe against the wall opposite the bed. I liked the mosquito net arrangement although we didn’t need to use it. It might have fallen apart if we’d tried to move it. It's the sort of place that should have had its own ghost.

On my last visit to Shrewsbury, there was no ensuite and that felt so wierd ambling along the corridor!

I wouldn't like a hotel room without an ensuite. I wouldn't have thought to check and make sure there was a bathroom included in the room. I've never ran into that in the US.

We stayed in Shrewsbury many years ago. Our friends booked a room in the Prince Rupert Hotel for us and the passage and rooms were all on different levels. I think we did have an ensuite thankfully as we'd arrived with very upset tummies. We were told there was a ghost but that ghost wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near us that night!!

@DaddyEvil Our old country hotels would all be similar (no ensuites) unless they'd been renovated at some stage.

How do you know it doesn't have ghosts? They might have looked at the two of you and decided you both needed rest more than the ghosts needed the fun of scaring you.

@JudyEv That was probably for the best.

I did wonder about ghosts but no-one mentioned any so I forgot about them.

It's cool to see "old" things like that mosquito net. I've seen movies with them, but I've never been in a place that had one. And I told you about my parents managing an old hotel for retired snowbirds that had a few rooms with toilets but one "bathroom" per floor.

@JudyEv — tell me about it!! Single people have 2 1/2 bathrooms in their houses these days!

People wouldn't put up with one bathroom per floor now but in those days everybody coped okay.

@FourWalls I must say I'm pleased to have two bathrooms here; more especially two toilets. We sometimes seem to coordinate our bathroom visits. We're obviously been married way too long!

I love the pink lamp! It would be perfect in our “pink” family room. I’ve stayed in hotels with mosquito netting, but it didn’t seem sanitary to me. Hubs always wanted one for our four poster guest room bed, but to me it’s a dust collector, although very pretty.

I'm with you. Mosquito nets and even valances and swags all catch dust.

I am glad that you did not need the bug screen. I am not certain if I would opt for an accommodation without an ensuite, I appreciate that so much.

We don't like not having an ensuite but occasionally there are no other options.

It's a pretty room, the bed seems narrow compared to our standards.

Going by the pillows, I think it was a queen-size but maybe only a double.

@JudyEv I love characterful hotels - hate modern chains. Again you propel me back to Lorenzo Marques in the early 70s. Thanks. Those were good times.

I've always wondered what it would be like to sleep under a net but now I've missed my chance.
