What on earth is a bed party?

I thought a bed party was another name for a sleepover when my granddaughter told me she had been so busy with bed parties. But I was wrong! She had hers last Saturday, which I went to and was blown away! It’s a party thrown by friends who will be going off to university after the summer. Everything bought has the school colors, school name, and can be requested or personalized. Last month her parents just about bought out the campus bookstore when they went to New Orleans. Her friends spent 6 1/2 hours setting up the bed. That bed happens to be my guest bedroom. My granddaughter wasn’t allowed to peek, so she had her hair and nails done, and hid in her own bedroom upstairs. My son and daughter-in-law hired a catering company to provide the food - pizza shaped in the letters TU for Tulane University, cookies, cake balls, a gorgeous cake, juices, water, teas, coffee, wine, and champagne, chicken nuggets, and balloons all over the house. The photo doesn’t show the rest of the bedroom, but on the dresser, was a pair of white cowboy boots decorated with New Orleans beads and ribbons, with a little gold H for Hallie, her name. Her videos went viral, because it was over the top as far as bed parties go. Since she doesn’t want an 18th birthday party in June, nor a graduation party, everyone went wild with the gifts. I wish bed parties were around when I was a kid!

What will they think of next? It looks like she's made out like a bandit. I can only imagine what the rest of that room contained. Wowzer.

How kool is that @DianneN Back in the late 60s the communications available was fairly limited unless you happened to know the local gossip ..... I wish I'd known that person but alas, I didn't. But hey, we did have phones

I know. Who thinks up these things? She did a TikTok post in fast motion by categories holding up and thanking everyone for each item. It was so cute and funny.

It was fun. She had a photo taken with each person at the bed party on the bed with her. They had to clear room for her other grammy and me, too.

@DianneN She works away at camp in the summer--homeschooled. She is already working, but came home for her birthday--and a pizza party at church.

@DianneN It's a great idea, but I fear not all the families can host something so huge.

@LadyDuck You’re right, but her other friends had them on a much smaller scale. She does not want a birthday party or graduation party except for dinner with her family. The bed party was everything rolled into one big celebration.

It turned out to be a huge party with 15 of her best friends from NYC, California, camp, high school, and ice skating throwing it. I don’t know how, where, or why it got started, but she will never be able to fit everything into her dorm room.

Thank you. She doesn’t want a birthday party or graduation party, so this was everything rolled into one. She’s planning on majoring in political science and then perhaps law.

@MarieCoyle so sorry I missed this, but happy I found it. Your granddaughter sounds like an amazing young lady who knows what she wants. I wish her all the best in her career. She’ll know when she’s ready to get married.

@DianneN I have five grandsons and just one granddaughter. She is an incredible young woman, currently doing an internship in law. She will have her degree either this coming December or Spring of 2027--I can't remember for sure. She works very hard, is engaged to a very nice young man but doesn't want to get married ''until I get a real job, Grandma!'' I hope your granddaughter loves college. I was fortunate that my granddaughter went to college here at the University of Illinois, so I did get to see her often then. She is at law school in Des Moines.

I didn't know there's that kind of party. I am aware bed is prepared with design during honeymoon. Only heard pajama party. Everyone is wearing the same pjs or with different design and the room was also designed with lots of pillows, food and drinks, etc.

Thanks! It was a bit more than a normal bed party. She doesn’t want a birthday party or a graduation party except for dinner with her family. So this bed party was everything rolled into one massive occasion. My time was the exact same as yours.
