Have You Ever Been Scared Half to Death?

Happy Wednesday Everyone! yesterdays sun is gone 
and we have rain again today. We need the rain so thankfully it's only raining lightly and no storms in the forecast. Tomorrow looks better with sun and warm temperatures.
I finally decided to get a ring doorbell. Almost everyone in my community has one but I just didn't feel it was necessary, But, the other night around 10pm someone opened my storm door, banged on the inside door, rang the doorbell numerous times and ran away. My daughter and I were engrossed in a tv show and it scared us half to death.
I'm sure it was kids playing a prank. The old ring and run but both of us were afraid to open the door. The fact that they opened the storm door (which is now locked) made us feel less than safe.
So, I ordered a ring doorbell from Amazon and my son will come and install it.
Until the other night I've never felt uneasy living here.

I recently got one installed as well and caught someone trying to open my work truck door at around 2 am

@Marilynda1225 Yeah nothings safe anymore. They are breaking into cars in parking lots in the malls near my town

@Marilynda1225 Have you spoken to your son or one of your daughters, who might be technically inclined? I would think that you need to find one that can take updates to remain current.

I really didn't think I would be one to get a ring doorbell but guess I'll be joining the millions who have them i wonder if a ring doorbell would deter kids from pulling pranks like this or if it wouldn't even phase them.

You probably should have it installed considering that your packages were stolen. From what I hear it's not hard to do. But m glad my son can come and do it for me.

No, but I have thought of getting one. I probably will one of these days because my son can install it. After an experience like you had I would definitely get one. That is scary. I do not like when people show up unannounced t the door. It is usually somebody wanting to do work or a religious group. Not really interested in either one.

I almost feel forced to get one now. It's rare that someone will ring the bell and we discourage solicitors in our community. I've always felt safe and often have my sliding door open to get fresh air in the house.But now I'll keep the storm door locked just for my own peace of mind.

@Marilynda1225 I only have a storm door in the back, but the top is screen. I keep it locked, but sometimes I keep the door open with the lock on. Nobody would go up there anyway It would be too hard

@snowy22315 my storm door in the front is solid glass but I never really kept it locked. Now I will.

Sounds like kids. We have ring but mostly because they were easy to setup

I have a dog that barks at anything or anyone that comes to the door. He even barks at the Amazon truck.

Your dog is better than a ring doorbell. A barking dog would certainly deter anyone coming to the door

Ring is a doorbell cam so you can see who is coming to the door. It keeps track of comings and goings.

I have one. The guy tried to install it about a week ago; but I kept getting an error message on my phone. I have to call them and figure out what to do.

I don't have the Ring brand doorbells, I have a Eufy security camera system. My oldest son likes it better than Ring, and I do have to admit I like it, too. I've never had anyone try to get in or open a storm door, etc. ( I keep those locked, too)...I do live in a neighborhood that seems very safe, it's rare anything ever happens here. But the kids got together and decided Mom needed some security, etc. so I have it. It does make a person feel safer, somehow.

I was reluctant to get one and I'm not sure if the one I'm getting is a Ring brand. My son is going to pick it up and then come and install it. We're probably only one of the few homes that don't have a security camera system so I guess it's time even though I feel it's a safe community/neighborhood.

i have a ring doorbell but since i live in building, it's that usual sound, very irritating. i'm sorry you were scared and those are very rude children; i mean, some things are no longer fun. 
i was scared once when i was a college student and there were no trams and there were just me and some guy and i was scared when he approached me but he just asked me numbers of trains yet, waiting alone at 3.a.m. in the morning, it wasn't comfortable. i think i was scared later too but i can't remember.
