AI Is Not Always Intelligent

In another post, the topic of AI came up, and I was reminded of someone who, not that long ago, was looking for a salt replacement, so he consulted with ChatGPT, the most popular AI tool, and it told him to use sodium bromide.
For those who don't know, it is a chemical compound used commonly to treat swimming pools and spas.
Needless to say, the man slowly poisoned himself and became hospitalized. Luckily it did not kill him.
It also reminded me of a recent "argument" I had with Microsoft Copilot, their AI "assistant" tool, when I asked a question about the current Pope and it came back with a very interesting response.
"Pope Francis is the current pope, is alive and well, and Pope Leo does not exist."
The moral of the story is you always need to check multiple sources of information before deciding the truth and expecting that AI will always have the correct answer is foolish.

I feel like AI is like some people I know and loves to tell a story whether it is true or not. I do not, as a general rule, trust it.

I agree AI sometimes gives false information..and sometimes hallucinates.

I rake some information generated by Al but I do always also check to see that what I get is true.

AI is a mixed bag, extremely helpful in some things, terrible at others. I am glad the man survived but that's a crazy mistake even for an AI.

Its always best to check and double check before assuming AI is 100% correct.

Wow! Some people assume that the answers they get from AI are always accurate.

Oh AI has been giving me some really erroneous and outdated information lately. I don't trust its accuracy at all.
