My cousin recently lost his wallet. He tried everything he could to retrace his steps, he notified law enforcement, etc. but nothing. He was so upset and frustrated. He went back to the police station twice. The second time, he caught up with one of the officers, they knew each other from school. The officer told him that men should always keep their wallets in a front pocket. You are more aware of your front pockets, you can't really ''miss'' the pocket like what can happen if you slide it in your back pocket. He also said, the best place for a woman to carry her cards/money/ID is in her front pocket as well, and if not in a crossbody purse. He also said that there are more wallet thefts now than ever before, and that people really need to think about possibly changing up their ways of carrying their money and cards and ID's.
Our mylotter @LooeyVille's husband recently lost his wallet. They have gone through a lot to replace cards, change a bank account, etc...this takes so much time and it's so gut wrenching. My son in law and daughter were in New Orleans a few years back, on Bourbon Street. He was wearing jeans, of course his wallet was in his back pocket. He hadn't taken it out to buy anything yet...but it was gone. He said he never felt a thing, he knew it was there because he had checked when they parked the car.
They even make small wallets for front pockets. This might be a good idea for some people to do, especially if that wallet is in the back pocket and you take it out and put it back a lot.
Just thoughts here....no one wants to suddenly realize it's just...gone.

I know the struggle. I lost my wallet when I was was in another city. I would be in trouble getting home if I did keepsafe all my cash in my wallet.
But when I return home that's when I have to get an affidavit of loss and get new IDs such a hassle really.
My wallet was being pickpocketed inside my sling bag when I requests to view the cctv inside the mall, it was not only one person but it's a group pretending to be a customer so one could have a chance to steal my wallet.

No, his wallet was never found. He has a front pocket wallet now. I think many of us try to avoid big crowds now, I can understand that.

This happened to me one time and I did start putting my wallet in the front. People always think that is a pack of smokes. I do smoke but its expensive in Cali and I roll my own now. I hardly ever carry smokes on me. They actually see my wallet and think its a pack of smokes. It throws them off from my life saving at least. How did the world get this way, it always was I guess but it gets more sad every time because we at such a evolved level it does not need to be this way.
Then something like that happens and you go people smarter, crooks smarter, no one evolved for anything.

They have trackers that you can put into your wallet now that would offer some peace of mind.
It is always a good idea to keep at least one piece of government issued photo ID out of your wallet, so that if the wallet goes missing, you can use that piece of ID to get the other pieces replaced.
And of course contacting the credit reporting bureaus immediately is necessary.
Bank debit and credit cards can be locked from within a cardholder's banking mobile app, which is a quick way to lock down the funds in those accounts.

@MarieCoyle Here we cannot provide a copy of our ID in order to get a replacement of it.
We have to have an original, such as a passport and then a social insurance number or a birth certificate, which do not have photos on them, would be a welcome addition.

I keep the copies in case the kids ever need them and do not, for some reason, have access to all of my stuff. They are locked and put away in a safe place. But yes, often I have to produce the originals.

All very true. And they have Apple tags for wallets, too.
I put my ID, debit card, etc. through the printer, and made a copy of them to keep here at home, in case I ever need that info. I read that we should all do that, so I did.

@MarieCoyle - They are very good in what they do. I remember that they stole the wallet from my mother purse and she did not even notice. They cut the purse with a blade while she was choosing food inside the supermarket. I am glad she only had very little money in the wallet and only the photocopy of her ID.

Some people go to so much trouble to steal things, it would honestly be easier to get out there and earn what they need, rather than steal. But they don't see that, somehow.

I think front pockets are safer to use, you can actually see someone from the front.

I have been carrying mine either in my front pocket or in my crossbody. I can understand your sentiment about your wallet. I have a very small worn down coin purse I’ve used for years for loose change. It’s old and the design isn’t visible anymore. It belonged to my special Aunt and I am weirdly attached to it.

I remember back in the day, they used to tell you to put a rubber band around your wallet so you would feel if someone was trying to pull it. That's actually what they told the kids who were going to Chicago back when I was in 7th grade, although this practice has been disputed, saying that while it can make it slightly more difficult to pull it out, it makes it easier for them to grip. My husband still carries his wallet in his back pocket and refuses to put it in his front pocket. I used to carry cash in my front pocket, but have since had to start carrying a purse, and it is a cross-body purse.

I do remember that rubber band recommendation. It didn't really catch on as I recall.
My sons both carry their wallets in their front pocket, as does my one son in law. I started using a crossbody bag several years back, it seems to be a good thing to do.

It’s so difficult. Plus you have to think about your phone having all of your information and passwords and stuff on it, in case it’s lost too.
I use a crossbody purse myself.

@MarieCoyle I don't remember being stressed at the time I did that with my never seen again wallet. Around that time I also left my dragon headed cane in the supermarket cart. Thank God one of the clerks knew who it belonged to and kept it for me. I don't know what was with me at that time.

Some years ago my oldest son put his wallet on top of his car while he was loading the kids in their car seats….wallet never to be seen again. After that disaster, I think everyone in our family made it a point to make sure to never put anything on top of the car. I’m sorry that happened to you.

We would never say 'fanny pack'. You rarely hear the word here. It would be considered offensive. So it's bum bag for us. Hope things are going well for you both.

Many people wear a very similar item that is like a fanny pack—It’s a zippered flat pouch, you wear it under your shirt and it goes around your waist. Pretty much invisible plus you feel it and you know it’s there. Great for trips.

Maybe. But it has supposedly been proven it is a lot less likely to be stolen if in the front pocket. No one has eyes in the back of their head...but most know what's going on to the front. Not trying to sound weird...it's just the truth.

Hubby carries a "biker wallet" or trucker wallet. It is flat to go in front and it has a chain and fastens to a belt loop or belt. I carry a purse, or a wallet in my hand. I am paranoid that I may lay it down and lose it.

I am familiar with trucker wallets, I see them being used at times. No way do I want to carry a purse in my hand or carry my wallet. I would get busy helping the son or whatever and forget where it was, I'm sure of that.

My dad always carried his in his front pocket. I often keep my thumb hooked in my back pocket making it impossible for someone to get it

While still in Latvia both my husband and I wore the bags taht go around the waist with our wallets, Never had a problem, I included a photo fo what I meant,

My mother kept losing her debit card and always dropping it so I bought her a wallet. Sometimes she would go back to her old ways of not putting it in her wallet. Now she does put it in her wallet now she is retired.

I see some sliding their wallets in their back pockets. I never do.
I keep them inside my side pocket.
I always shudder to recall when I was a pickpocket victim at Paris Metro.
Thankfully, I had "deep pockets" and my handkerchief was covering my wallet. They got hold of my hanky!
I would have been virtually on the street had I lost the wallet holding not only cash but credit and identity cards.
