What a Nifty Start to the "Season"

The "season" being the start to summer. It's gotten off with a bang, as some might say, and the punches just keep rolling. It started off a month or so ago when on maybe the third cut of the season, the drive belt on my riding mower went kaput. That was a nice $400 setback and put us back to mowing with the push mower for a spell. Fantastic. Then, just a few days ago, I looked out the kitchen window and didn't see movement on the water in the pool. As soon as I walked out the door leading onto the back deck, I could smell it. Something electrical, hot and burning. The motor on the pool pump crapped out. $225 down the drain, and we had just opened the pool a few days before. We did get the new pump and filter assembly in yesterday and spent a good half of the day removing the old pump and filter and putting in the new one. What a royal pain in the ass. But get this, while we were still waiting for the pump and filter to arrive from Amazon, we decided we'd get the grass cut. I backed the rider out of the garage and noticed something odd about the front, left tire. I got off the mower and examined it, and somehow, and I have no idea how, the tire was not only flat, but completely blown apart. So, now I will have to replace the tire. And naturally, when I went to Lowes—I prefer Menards, but Lowes is closer and I just wanted to get the tire fixed ASAP—they didn't have the tire I need. I still don't have the tire, so I will either have to shop around for it, or order it online. But wait, it's not over yet. When my wife was filling the sand in the filter yesterday, she decided to pull up a patio chair. Halfway through the process there was a loud snap, crack, and my wife went sideways as one of the welds on the seat gave way. All this, and it's only June.

I hope your wife wasn't hurt! She was only trying to help you, after all. Everything I set up was for you, not her!

We had a good laugh from it. Granted, I was the one laughing a bit harder. But yeah, we're off to a running start. Let's hope the stock market continues to soar. I'm going to need it. lol

That was not a great start of the season for sure. I hope the tire is not as expensive as the car tires. How is your wife? Did she get hurt?

Rider tires, at least the one I need which is a 13x5.00-6, run about $70 for the whole tire and rim assembly. Not terrible. But more money down the drain nonetheless. My wife is fine. We got a bit of a laugh out of it. To be fair, we've had the patio set for around 12 years, and I guess things don't last forever.

Wow… summer really came in like it had a personal grudge against your wallet ?? First the mower belt, then the pool pump motor, then the mower tire decides to completely self-destruct, and just to top it all off the patio chair stages its own dramatic collapse

Do you remember the tv show "Hee Haw" where they sang, "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"? Sorry you're having a bad time recently.

Yes. I do recall that. And it's been a life motto for me. I have the kind of luck that by the time I win something, it will be a comb, and I will be bald. lol

Holy mackerel!! your June certainly has been off to a terrible start. Hopefully that's the end of it and the rest of June goes well. When you mentioned the pool I figured that you were going to say that's the end of that nuisance and just drain it and get rid of it.
