So this tickled my funny bone. The World Cup is going on (soccer/football). I don’t particularly care, but I watch a lot of sports shows. Today, they were talking about the players from other countries documenting things about America they can’t believe. Reading these players social media is hilarious. One foreign player got to try Taco Bell, Waffle House, and Wendy’s, and waxed poetic. Another player couldn’t believe gas stations like Buc-cee’s existed. Another was amazed they got free chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants and thought they were being tricked. And one was wowed by all you can eat buffet Golden Corral. Some players fell in love with biscuits (not cookies). And one commented they’d never met so many people who greeted you even though they didn’t know them. I’m glad they are enjoying themselves.

Everyone looks to be having a great time. I love America, but the England team are playing their group games all over the place - TX, MA, and NJ. So I couldn’t contemplate, at my age, flying over there and following them around. All the games are on tv, so I can watch them in the comfort of my armchair, with an appropriate food choice. England’s first game is in Texas on Wednesday. I associate Texas with cattle, based on me watching Victoria Principal I mean Dallas , all those years ago, so I should have a steak. I won’t, but I might have steak flavoured crisps (chips) instead. C’mon England!!!

I’d hate to fly that much too. Texas really is a great place, full of friendly people, and sure, cattle. Maryland is nice except for Baltimore, but New Jersey? No comment.

@AmbiePam Texas is a huge place. I believe it’s bigger than the whole of the UK. Don’t know anything about Maryland apart from the cookies. NJ is where our pool loving friend lives, so can’t be that bad.

My son's been watching all the games on tv and tells me only about the racism that's happening.

You mean ICE? At least it’s not Europe. They attack players and throw slurs at them. But then, I always expect people to find any and all negatives.

@AmbiePam NOpe. The US Customs and Border protection didn't let one of the referrers to enter the US because according to them he is suspected to be associated with a terrorist group, at least that's what they are alleging. .And he even has a US Visa but was sent back to Somalia. Canada even responded that he is welcome to ender Canada.

I often read reports of how people view our habits and cuisine. Glad to keep them amused.

It must be reassuring hearing this and knowing that the grass is green on your side of the fence. It is great that they are enjoying themselves, they all deserve it.

There is something called culture shock when you go to a different country. Some things will sure amaze you. I'm also glad the players are having fun in your country

I follow two brits who love coming to America (Josh and Jase), and I love their reactions to everything. They always say people there don't believe them when they talk about us and their time here. Josh has always said American heat was some of the worst heat he has ever experienced, and that our winter was one of the worst winters he has ever experienced. He was then going on about how he was right and how people from there had to prepare to come here for the game, because they aren't used to the heat. I remember when Josh was complaining about it being in the 70s, and I was like That's like a nice summer day here lol. Josh also mentions our biscuits and gravy as some of the best food he has ever had. I have always enjoyed watching their perspective on our country. A lot of Europeans also don't understand how the US works (anymore than most of us understand there, I guess) and they fail to understand how different each state is from one another. The time zones differ depending on where you live in the US, and the weather is different across the country. It will snow in one part of the country while others are sweating. We will see Florida losing its mind over snow, while people laugh at the East Coast's reaction to an earthquake, we often fail to take into consideration how something we are used to can be hard for a state that isn't prepared for it (we don't have buildings up to code for earthquakes because we rarely get them, and Florida doesn't have many snow plows), and then there are these other countries who have no clue how incredibly different each state is from one another. If you have been to one state in the US you have been to one state in the US. There are so many differences between states, but there are definitely things that seem to be countrywide.

Just now
It is funny how they can be so surprised by the things here that we take for granted.

I'm sure it's an eye-opener to some of the players, especially those who haven't travelled much before.
