That was a long phone call and chat

After not having a Sam's Club membership for five years, we purchased an upgraded membership in October 2025.
I have never been able to sign in or register my membership online, although I can go in the store and shop to my heart's content.
The line was crazy at the desk, the day we rejoined. There was one person working the desk who handed off to someone else in the middle of two memberships joining at the same time.
I was chatting with AI, who passed me to a real person, Byron, at my request. Byron did what he could by chat, and when that did not work, he called me. He had to remove my e mail from my old account. He changed my phone number from my old landline to my current cell phone. All in all, we tried everything and still got messages that my name and number did not match.
I was tired, and ready to give up. I told him I would just go into the membership desk in person, eventually, and see what they could do. I described the chaos of the day we signed up. I told him I would not be surprised if I was given someone else's card.
That comment triggered a thought for Byron. He asked me to spell my first name as I entered it, and then my last name as I entered it.
Eureka!! They had transposed two letters in my last name. I had to type my name in spelled wrong in order to sign in!!!
I still will have to have it fixed in person, but that is okay. He figured it out. Now I can shop online and pick up my order. Hurray!!

That was why I upgraded the membership in the first place.

I do not know if it is ever NOT Busy, but I can go in early with the upgraded membership. I get very overwhelmed and sensory overload in store, so I thought I could order online and pick up if I wanted to.

I've seen that happen before. Even reading my name off my driver's license, the clerk misspelled it. At least he figured out what was wrong. I hope you called their management and praised the guy! I bet most people don't bother doing that when they get excellent service.
I'm glad you can shop online now.

I received a survey immediately about my interaction with Byron. I was complimentary and rated him highly, especially for his persistence and troubleshooting skills.

I could always shop in store, because I have a physical card. I can see some reasons to want to shop online, so this had to be fixed, or cancelled.

I don't think I would worry about it now

When I have a reason to be in the store I WILL let them know and let them know how hard it was to figure out. Not sure when that will be.

Me too. And I bet any other time Byron has this kind of mystery he will think of the name and see if it is spelled right.

Yes. I had been putting it off. I do not like having to ask for help, but I do want to get what I paid for, which in this case was supposed to be convenience.

I was feeling jinxed. I kept on carefully typing things in, over and over, and still getting told "something does not match." I thought of trying "Robert" instead of "Heather", but never thought of a miss spelling.

We have a membership at Sam's & we rather go in than
shop online cause we can browse & get out of the house
for a few hours, Like last week we got stocked up on some
things we needed like toilet paper, paper towels, Big packs
& some other things we needed like my no-sugar drinks
I forget what else we got but it came to about a GOOD 300$

My last trip in I spent $200. I do not even have the number of animals to care for that you do. My thought actually is that I can order and pay for my standard things like TP, paper towels, kitty litter, and things I get every time. Then when I pick that up and load it, if I like I can go in and look for some things on sale, and not have to leave Bob alone for so long.
