Good Morning, mylot.

I am following the crowd with the good morning title. Trying very hard to remain positive this morning. We have a very strange forecast. Of course, living in the Midwest most generally means a person will get a tornado watch or warning sometime--it's just the way it is. It took me forever to get to sleep and then I kept waking up--I think I remembered to do everything. Stuff is charged up, anything in the yard is tucked away--even the two big flowerpots on the front porch. I said a little prayer over my tomato plants, and other garden efforts that have been growing. The car is put away in the garage. I made a big pot of coffee and put it all in the air pot. I may need it later!! So many forecasts, there are weather spotters everywhere, and so much talk about all of this. I really hope to tell you later, or tomorrow, or sometime that this didn't happen anywhere and all blew over. That doesn't look likely, but I am hoping for just that. ''A significant wind threat is expected across central Illinois through mid-day. Potential for gust to reach 100 mph with embedded tornadoes as the initial bow echo moves through Central Illinois.'' We are already under a tornado watch, which doesn't sound like much in lieu of what seems to be on tap for later. I am hopeful for the best, time will tell.

We do not plan on leaving the house. I think I am worried more about the projected winds than anything. Thank you, Anna.

Nothing too terrible yet. A crazy amount of heavy rain and some wind. It's weirdly very cold outside, partly because of the winds--it's jacket or heavy sweater weather. But this is only the first round of storms, more coming later, so we aren't letting our guard down just yet. Thanks for asking!

@MarieCoyle I hope things stay "moderate." Hmm. It looks like Grinnell Iowa, where I went to college, is/was near the top of the storm.

@TheHorse Like I said, the main storm is supposed to be later today, we can always hope that it loses some of it’s steam before it arrives!

We were very fortunate to have little to no damage here. Others were not so lucky.

The 9:30 PM (eastern time) update seems to have removed everything north of Springfield from the highest danger area now. But, as I type this, I'm watching a tornado that just went over Effingham.

Grandson called me at 1 AM last night to tell me that he got home, it just took a long time as he had to wait for a tree to be moved and some other stuff. I was simply happy to know that he was safe. The tornado that hit Effingham was very close to where he lives.

@FourWalls He lives in a small house not far from his Dad's. Close behind the houses there is a huge woods, a big pond, and another outbuilding. He said there were a lot of trees down and two were in the pond, and one had grazed the outbuilding. They will have a lot of clean up to do, but they are just thankful it wasn't worse.

I like the positivity of saying good morning/afternoon/evening in the title of posts. It is the way we would speak naturally. I hope that the terrible weather has passed and that you were saved any awful damages. I'm thinking of you and sending you positive vibes.

I truly appreciate your good wishes, Julia. We are OK. Lots of water, flooding, and things that flew through the air in the winds, but all is well. Thanks so much.

@Juliaacv Currently, the area of Illinois I used to live in seems to be getting a tornado, that's about 125 miles south of me. For some reason, Illinois is definitely getting a record number of tornadoes now. Thank you.

Today we have a ton of rain and flooded streets. But others not far away are getting some tornadoes so I am not going to complain about the roads right now!!

You know what this is like, you've had lots of practice with tornadoes, too. It's the worry for safety for loved ones, ourselves, everyone...it's stressful and keeps us on edge until it's over. Thanks so much, Amber.

I imagine you are in the midst of it now. I hope it isn't too terrible. We may get storms tomorrow, but the wind will only gust up to 31.

We have had some really crazy winds here this spring and summer. We didn't get hit like a lot of surrounding cities and towns, we were fortunate. But there are many that were not. Luckily no deaths, I am so thankful for that.
