I was worried about Bob because of the apparent side effects from being given Haldol. He did not eat, drink, take meds, go to the restroom. He would not make eye contact. He would not speak to me.
Our local ER said to call his kidney doctor. They could not prescribe or give advice without actually seeing Bob. When I called them he was still in bed.
Because I slept poorly last night I went back and slept more while he was peaceful. As long as he was asleep he was okay, but when he woke up his body had these weird shakes and tremors. . . a common drug side effect with this medicine in the elderly.
The kidney doctor said that as long as he was not getting worse, or running a fever, the best thing to do was to just let the med wear off. It's half life is up to 37 hours. I am not sure, does that mean it will take 74 hours to completely clear?
Bob got up on his own around 1:30. At one point he went out to his lawn chair and we sat outside a long time. At that time I was able to get him to drink a cup of "Constant Comment" tea. A favorite of his from drinking it with his mom.
When we finally came back in, instead of a meal we ate an Armor brand lunchable each, it is like a snackable. He started slowly, but liked it more and more.It had crackers, chicken, and cheese, as well as a tiny candy bar. He did not eat anything yesterday that I saw. We also had red grapes, and fig newton cookies. He finally took his meds.
Bob is in bed. He was "sundowning" as he tried to get ready. That often happens with dementia. Increased strange behaviors at sundown.
He does not take anything for dementia, it hurt his stomach. He takes a vitamin, a heart med, a statin, and something to increase his appetite.
We may or may not get rain tonight. I will check on him another time, then visit with my daughter for a while. Thanks for listening.

This is a hard road for you both. When I was having a lot of contact with dementia carers, they said sundowning in women was when in their typical day, at the time, that was when they'd start bringing in the washing, getting the evening meal ready, etc. I guess for men it would be about the time they'd knock off work.

I'm glad he did get out of bed, and ate something and went outside. That's a positive thing. You are doing all you can, I hope the medicine wears off soon. I know sundowning can be hard to deal with at times. I hope you both can have a restful night, you are in my prayers.

Hopefully his appetite increases enough so that he eats properly. I wish I could give advice but when I was caring for my mom I knew very little about what was happening to her
