Remember playing in the rain?

There was a heavy downpour this afternoon, and instead of running for cover, the kids in my neighborhood did the exact opposite. The moment the rain started pouring, they ran outside and started playing in it. Some were splashing in puddles, some were chasing each other, and a few were just standing there with their faces turned toward the sky, enjoying the rain. Watching them made me feel nostalgic. It reminded me of when I was their age and rain wasn't something that ruined plans - it was THE plan. We would stay outside until we were completely soaked, and our mothers would have to call us several times before we finally came home. Nowadays, when it rains, my first thoughts are laundry, traffic, and whether I remembered to bring the clothes in. Funny how growing up changes us. Did you ever play in the rain when you were a kid? And is it still considered safe to do that nowadays, or have times changed?

@LadyDuck Nowadays here also kids don't play in the streets because of the crime rates which has increased in the last few years especially with the kids.

@sol_cee - Kids are not allowed to play in the streets, I do not know if they do in the south of Italy or in very small towns, but nowhere in the large Italian cities.

When I was younger, I liked to play in the rain until I got older and would catch a head cold if I did not take a shower after being outside in the rain.

I can relate. When we're kids, we can stay in the rain for hours. As adults, one wrong move and we're already reaching for the medicine cabinet

It is not the same as before. Many kids do. Others prefer to avoid as getting too much drenched can lead to infection or disease or simple cough and cold. And sometimes rains can be too heavy to drench too much. Yet again, it can vary from city to city and area to area.

@sol_cee Yes it is not as simple. Plus many living places' design and the fact that many people do not know each other is a factor.

That's true. Kids today seem more careful, and parents are too. Plus, with heavy rains and flooding in some areas, it's not always as simple as running outside and having fun

Not when I was a kid. I was sickly back then. When in college, I got soaked a lot in the rain when there's typhoon and flood

As a child when I was in the country, I would run out after the rain and splash in all the mud puddles I could fine, Mom did not like this,

Haha, sounds like you really enjoyed the rain as a kid! Childhood is funny that way. We never worried about things and just had fun

Yes, I played in the rain when I was a kid. It wasn't often but I loved every moment of it. Would love to do it again, if that wouldn't look inappropriate for a woman my age.

It has been such a very long time since I had any desire to play in the rain. I remember loving to jump in puddles, that’s for sure.

To be honest, when I was a kid, I didn't wear clothes when I bathed in the rain.

Yes, I used to play in rain in my childhood. We used to make paper boats and used to throw them in the water. We used to go out having an umbrella on the terrace so that our parents don't scold us and used to get wet in the rain.

I loved playing in the rain as a kid. It was such a fun time. And considering how hot it was, the cold rain always felt good. And it’s funny, just this past Saturday we were at Disney World and it started pouring down rain. Instead of seeking shelter, we decided to have some fun and play in the rain!

@sol_cee No, we didn't have a change of clothes. We were only visiting for the day, so after getting soaked we just walked around and rode rides and visited shops and restaurants until we were dry enough to drive home.

That sounds like a fun memory! Playing in the rain at Disney World must have been a blast. Did you have extra clothes to change into afterward?

Do you mean you didn't like the rain itself, or you didn't like playing in the rain when you were a kid?

Why is that? It was a lot of fun! As kids, we didn't need much of an excuse to run outside and get soaked

@JudyEv That explains it. Rain is a lot less fun when it's cold outside

@sol_cee I think Mum was worried we'd get a cold. It was usually pretty cold when it rained in our area.

I remember doing that too in the past. But nowadays they seemed to be not good anymore since most of the rains may be bad for health anymore since they can be polluted already and may not be as clean as it used to be.

I love seeing kids enjoy simple things like playing in the rain. It really does bring back memories of a time when we didn’t worry about schedules, chores, or getting dirty we just enjoyed the moment.
