I don’t know quite what is wrong with my elderly neighbor For one thing she still has her Christmas tree up and turns the lights on every night Her house is very very very cluttered as is her garage. She’s a hoarder. There’s a tricycle in her garage and a high chair in her dining room but her granddaughter is 9 years old now Her adult daughter is there regularly. Why doesn’t she get rid of those things from her mom’s house? And I think the neighbor is slipping mentally. She’s the one that got scammed for tens of thousands of dollars I worry about her

Some people keep their Christmas tree up all year. Guess the daughter isn't invested.

Maybe the daughter just doesn't want to fight about her moms hoarding. That does sound like she needs help though

Yeah that makes sense. She's also fighting ovarian cancer and has a pacemaker, so she's got a lot going on. (the mother)

I like the tree aspect. Her daughter might have tried to do something, but you know people who are stubborn beyond belief; especially if they are slipping mentally. Personally, I think her daughter must know which is added reason to be there regularly. My dad and I once made light of the fact that if ever has age related mental problems he’s going to be impossible to deal with since he’s already so stubborn. I bet her daughter has hit that wall.

I had a friend who kept her Mother's Christmas tree up for several years. Her mother had terminal cancer and she absolutely loved Christmas, it was her favorite time of year. Everyone just went with it at the time, it made her happy. Maybe there's a reason? Maybe daughter is not trying to rattle her mother's last time on earth? Or maybe daughter just doesn't want to. I hope the poor woman doesn't trip or fall on extra belongings, I always worry about that with hoarders.

Her daughter needs to worry about her, and if possible help her get rid of some things. I think as far as the Christmas tree and lights go, they are cheery and it is probably easier to leave it up than to take it down and put it back up.

Some people do keep their Christmas stuff up all year. I don't fully understand it, but that's just me. Hopefully someone can find a way to help your neighbour.

Maybe she just likes the tree and the lights. It's sad when people get too old to manage themselves.

My elderly neighbor, Mary, is sharp as a tack, and I have been in her house a couple of times. It's a museum in two ways—one, you feel like you've stepped into a time capsule, and two, it's clean as hell. She does not have a Christmas tree up and so far as I am aware, she doesn't even bother with Christmas stuff.
