I am really glad to learn she was found safe and well but stories you here quite often like this do not have such a good ending
What were the parents doing that their 4 year old could just wander off like that

The parents were in the area when they allowed her daughter to be with the group of other kids in the state park.

You are right. Children can vanish quickly in a crowd.

They did a great job. Here a girl eloped with her boyfriend. After a week she was rescued from a red light area. Her so called boyfriend had sold her there. The man was found and arrested.

That is terrible that a girl was sold into slavery by her boyfriend.

I wonder how she got so far. I wonder why no one missed her, or saw her leave.

Good question since children know who to vanish in a crowd of strangers.

What a wonderful outcome! A four-year-old being lost for several hours is every family's nightmare, so it's a huge relief that she was found alive and reunited with her relatives the same evening.
