How long do you spend on housework?

I once complained that vacuuming the entire house took me three hours (and made me really mad, because I was convinced the vacuum cleaner had a personal vendetta against me), so my partner said from now on he would do it.
I was so pleased with this offer that I neglected to stipulate the details. I should have insisted on him doing the entire house (or at least the rooms that have been used) at least once a week. As it is he tends to vacuum the carpet in the centre of each room every few weeks, leaving cobwebs festooned from the ceiling and dead woodlice piling up in the corners below. Once we even found a mouse nesting on the futon we then had in the living room; I hadn’t noticed because I never had time to sit down and he couldn’t understand it because “I vacuumed in here!”
In case you think I’m expecting him to do everything; I clean the bathrooms (and fix the plumbing), clean the kitchen, do most of the laundry, most of the gardening, most of the grocery shopping, so it isn’t unreasonable to expect him to do the vacuuming.
The reason this is on my mind just now is that I have recently started occasional work as a ‘relief housekeeper’ for historic building preservation charity and holiday accommodation provider The Landmark Trust. So basically I go and do the housework when the regular housekeeper is unavailable. And the regular time needed for two people to clean a three-bedroom house is 6 hours. So that’s 12 hours in total, and it’s generally cleaned every Monday and Friday unless guests are staying for a week, so that’s 24 hours per week.
It’s making me feel like my own house is nowhere near clean enough. It’s almost twice the size and of course has more ‘stuff’ that needs to be worked around, so takes more time. If an empty house needs 24 hours of cleaning per week, then cleaning ours to the same standard would need 48 hours per week!

I pick away at the housecleaning a little bit everyday, that way I do not have to exhaust myself trying to do it all at once. I use my little robot vacuum for in between cleanings, but like you indicated, it doesn't do corners (it is round) and there is no cobweb patrol either.

@LadyDuck YES! The garden needs way too much work now. I'll be going out to tackle some of it as soon as I finish here.

How much time? As little as possible. Mostly I just try to keep things neat and tidy.

Since the days of being able to clean the house in one day are long gone I can say that I do some every day to keep everything clean and tidy.

Ok
So You have a much bigger house than we do.
I got to thinking about this
We are minimalistic, so don't have much stuff. Makes keeping a tidy clean house easier.
The Bathroom I clean every day until it gleams
Five and a half years and our new bathroom in our new house still looks new
It takes 10 minutes per day, so about one hour per week
Vacuum cleaner , every day, 10 minutes for the whole house once per day so another hour
Laundry, well the machine is on every day.
But hanging the washing out and bringing it in when dry takes 10 minutes per load so about another hour per week
I have a nifty little small vacuum cleaner I use for dusting , about 10 minutes at a time so another hour per week
The kitchen, our lovely galley kitchen, compact but bijou, my domain, I do spend more time keeping my cooker clean and kitchen gleaming than anything except the bathroom. I clean as I go as I cook.
Say 5 hours per week , maybe more
I cut the grass, wash the bikes etc etc
So how much tine do I spent doing it.
Well, not as long as I spend doing housework

You're obviously totally on top of this, and should be proud of yourself.
We're in a hard water area which makes anything in the bathroom or kitchen a pain to keep clean, because of the limescale, which dirt just sticks to. And of course cleaning off the limescale over the long term can damage the finish on the bathroom fittings too!

Well Yvonne can't do it anymore
And anyway, I live in the house too so why not clean it.
It's not difficult, I think we covered all the bases in its design.

I do not clean enough, so I have no numbers for you but I hate vacuuming. I do not have mice, however. The snakes, hawks and cats take care of that.

Am I “lucky” that my apartment is 690 sq. ft.? It takes me an hour to get to everything, but I do, do certain things on different days. I’ll vacuum one day, and of course my tub gets cleaned after every shower. Everything else is all at once.
What is wood lice? I think of termites, but it can’t be that because no one is that blasé about termites.
And girl, you are the hardest working partner in the world. I’d send your partner a bill if vacuuming poorly is all he does for housework (I’m sure he’s great otherwise).

He does do a lot of the cooking, which is a good thing because I'm terrible at getting food ready in a rush so if anyone needs to go out in the evening he's much better at getting something on the table. I like to cook more complex dishes but it takes me longer! Also in the summer when it's still light at 10pm, I'll be still in the garden totally forgetting that we need dinner before bed time!

I just do a little as I go. I don't try to compare to places like that as I live in mine so it's not going to look as pristine

I'm not sure. Hubby does all of the housework. He does a little every day then Thursdays are vacuuming days and cleaning and dusting of every room and Sundays are touch-up days. If I had do guess, I'd say 14 hours/week.?

I am glad I am in an apartment now. I used to spend many more hours in our big house, the garden needed many hours of work per week.
