Should we ban fast food restaurants near schools ?

Apparently there has been a call to prevent fast food restaurants from opening near schools.
This is in a bid to help prevent child obesity.
What do you think ?
Will children just travel to the nearest fast food place ?
Will it mean parents have to make up a packed lunch for them to take to school ...?
Will they do that ? Will it cost more ?
Do you think parents should have always limited fast food anyway ?
Anyway, what do you think .....is this a good start ?
Is it too little too late ?
Your thoughts please ?

That is a good idea. I think that would be part of the health curiculum.

Why would any parent willingly feed their child fast food every day? I just don't understand. If they hate the food at the schools, then pack a lunch. It's not hard.

No. Parents need to instill discipline and good eating habits in their kids.

That's assuming a packed lunch is any better. Often they're not, plus they are often in a paper bag with no refrigeration for several hours before the kids eat.

That's silly! IF kids can get to a fast food restaurant, then, IF they have money, then they'll stop and get something to eat or drink. If one of their friends can drive or their parents can drive, then they'll get fast food, no matter how far away a restaurant happens to be.

I think in the report I heard it was more the 11 to 16 year olds, not those who could drive ....
It was more they didn't want the fast food places very close to schools

@Traceyjayne Our schools won't let those ages leave the school without a parent taking them out of the school.

I don't think fast food places near schools are the main cause of obesity in kids. Even if parents pack a lunch for their kids that doesn't mean it will be 100& healthy,

It is their own responsibility to eat what is good for them. If you have lactose intolerance, you avoid dairy.

@Aquitaine24 these aren't people ....they are children....a lot of 11 year olds don't know what healthy food is ....and a lot will choose fast food as it's tasty and it may be what they are used to.

Children of that age do t usually think about healthy foods...they just want tasty.

I don't think kids would be allowed to leave the school-yard here until home time and most kids would be picked up by parents.

Here children in Secondary schools ....ages 11 - 16 are able to leave the premises at lunchtimes .... And they are the ages these fast food places would target.
