To no one’s surprise, we have an air quality alert here in the land of the Kentucky Derby. I was wondering why I needed extra albuterol for asthma control yesterday, then I said, “Duh!” I pray the good people in Canada can get those wildfires under control quickly. I’ll give you a song to dance to…indoors, in good air! Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out) - Ernie Maresca In this happy tune you’ll hear a little self-promotion: “Play another song like ‘Runaround Sue.’” While this song was Ernie Maresca’s biggest hit as a singer, he had many other hits as a songwriter…including co-writing “Runaround Sue.” You can tell, too, that this has a little “Runaround Sue” feel to it, with the “whop whop whops” sounding like someone played the “hey heys” in “Runaround Sue” on a faster speed. This is one of the great fun tunes from the innocent era of rock and roll. Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out) Written by Ernie Maresca and Thomas Bogdany Recorded by Ernie Maresca From Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out), 1962 JUKEBOX LYRICS: Turn that jukebox up mighty loud

No, you’re well-seasoned, not “old.”

Great fun song. I love the “whop whop whops”. Could never have named the artist, but cool he co-wrote “Runaround Sue’ Edit: I just remembered that it was Dion that co-wrote and sang “Runaround Sue”. It was mentioned on our Boom Radio, that he is still touring at the grand old age of 87, and I’m sure he has a new song, maybe album out? Amazing!

@FourWalls I don’t know where they get the energy from? I’m 20 years their junior, and I can’t even manage a tour of myLot without feeling worn out!

@Orson_Kart — I know what you mean! I put a fitted sheet on the bed and I need a breathing treatment.

Those “oldie goldies” still tour a lot. Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon of “Palisades Park” fame passed away last week at the age of 89, and he was touring until he was too sick to do so!

The funny thing is that I know about the song "Roundabout Sue" but not the artist Ernie Maresca before.

This was his only major hit as a singer. Most people don’t pay attention to the songwriters.

@FourWalls That is what I have noticed that songwriters do not have the fame as singers do.

I didn't know if I knew it or not until I listened. I remember it, but it's been years since I've heard it. Quite a fun little ditty.

That describes a lot of early 60s stuff!

@FourWalls - That's true. Musically, the 60's were like two wildly different decades in one.

@teamfreak16 — there’s that line in Fogerty’s “I Saw It on TV” about JFK’s assassination: “they buried innocence that year.” Between that and the war ramping up in Vietnam and the Civil Rights violence, you really can draw a line between those events and the way music changed.

I hadn't heard this one in years. Oddly enough, I did hear ''Runaround Sue'' a few days ago in the car, on the oldies station!
