The spoon must stand up in the bowl
If it doesn't
It's not proper porridge
So today I made for Yvonne and I proper porridge.
Made with porridge oats and milk
Simples
Take one and a half mugs of porridge oats
And microwave in a large bowl with 2 mugs of milk
Keep going until it's really thick stirring quite often or it will make a real mess in the microwave
Serve in bowl with upstanding spoon
Sprinkle with white sugar
Voila yum breakfast

I like porridge too, or oatmeal as we refer to it here. I also make it in the microwave. I usually only eat it when the weather is cool..I almost had it one day when the overnight low was 61 and it wasn't warm in here. Maybe I will have it tomorrow. I think the temps are going to be coolish tonight.

@Ineeddentures Ohh, didn't know..We usually just refer to other oats just like rolled, instant, quick cook or steel cut..and don't use the term porridge.

Oh no
Oatmeal and Porridge are two different things
I knew this would happen where I was obliged to explain the difference
But this is interesting
Oatmeal: A dish made exclusively from oats, often cooked in water or milk. It can be served warm or cold and is known for its comforting texture and nutritional benefits.
Porridge Oats: A broader term that refers to any porridge made from oats. It can include various forms of oats, such as rolled oats, steel-cut oats, or instant oats.
Confused
I am

It's confusing
Most Scots think Oatmeal is the same as Porridge Oats
And it's not
But this comes down to branding
The most famous porridge is Scotts
And ai think by association Scotland got lumped with it

@Ineeddentures perhaps I would try it, but I’m not sure if I would actually eat the whole thing.

Salt!!
Well using Salt is the Scottish way but it really is revolting and it's not usually as thick so it's not good anyway.
And my fellow Scots use water and not milk
Yuck
So this is my way. lol
And I am glad I did it

It may well be a Scottish Curse.
I care not
Sugar is better, it makes it like a big bowl of stodgy yum.
The Scottish way is not always the best way

@Ineeddentures well good to know that it is. Sounded sort of oatmeal-ish but wasn't sure

It doesn't really taste oatmeal- ish because of the way it's cooked and the milk absorbed
Sugar on it helps too
Some nice canned peaches with it is also good
It's just a yummy simple delight to eat

It's a Scottish breakfast staple.
It's a great start to the day,
It's sort of like Oatmeal but not Oatmeal
