What do you think about artificial insemination?

What do you think about artificial insemination? I know a single lady who fosters children, but a couple years ago she had artificial insemination, and now has had two children that way. Complicating matters, she is white, and with her first child she chose an African American donor. I don’t think she thought it through well at all because she has no African American people in her life. But then, what do I know?

I don't have an issue with it. It allows women who want children to do so. I mean they do that for couples that are struggling to conceive as well--they just use the sperm from the male in the relationship rather than a random guy's. I also don't see a problem with the donor sperm being from an African-American while she is Caucasian (I presume).

My concern is that she has zero other African American people in her life. Otherwise, I wouldn’t think twice. He’s absolutely adorable.

@AmbiePam The child can probably be hooked up with an African-American mentor in Boy Scouts, programs like the YMCA, and in school if she feels that it is necessary.

@NJChicaa I hope so. She’s nuts. She wanted to get a worse paying job so she could get government assistance while she was pregnant because having the government pay for the child was cheaper for her.

Well, what a question for a Saturday morning ! ….ha ha . I don’t have a problem with it ….just hope the lady loves and looks after the child. There will be comments about the difference in colour of their skin ….although, there are many families of mixed race in the world. I’m sure she will be prepared for that. Just being nosy …. Why did she choose an African American Dr ?

She got really attached to a foster child that was black, and this was her way of dealing with it. That’s what she told me anyway. The child went back to the birth mother.

Some times, women want to have children and have difficulty. I don't think that there's anything wrong with it. I don't see anything in the Bible that says, "If you cannot have children, thou shalt not use A.I." I'm not comfortable, however, with her choosing an A-A donor. That just strikes me wrong.

@AmbiePam Not a fan of people purposely choosing to have children without the inconvenience of a partner. Just selfish. It’s like bungee jumping - just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

@xFiacre. What about those who really want to be a parent and who would be amazing parents, but they haven’t found a life partner …..should they be denied the chance to be a parent…..

I don’t have a problem with it. I am glad it allows people who want to have a child and they cannot following the natural course of life.

I don't see a problem with it. BTW, you're quite mistaken about her not having any African Americans in her life. She has at least one.

I am pro it, when it is done in the right way. My sister is doing IVF after more than a year of trying to do IUI. Granted they are using her husbands "baby juice" so it isnt random or anything. I guess like I said, when it is done right I am pro it.

I have no issue with it. Technology has made it possible for singles who wish to have kids to have kids.
