First day back at work

I'm tired. That is due to a combination of not getting much sleep and the shock to my system to be back at work after the summer off. It happens to all of us. I did get to work about 30 minutes earlier than normal because I had no idea what I was walking into. I stopped at the office to get my keys. . . and the key for the new room didn't work. Luckily a coworker had a master key for the wing so he was able to let me in. I returned to the office after 1st period and got my own master key. I have the superpower now! (they usually hate giving those out) I walked in to discover that not a single thing had been moved to the new room. I was assured that would be done. Then I saw that the wing printer was in my room. At first I was like "awesome!" Yeah after people coming in all throughout the first 3 periods I was like "this is NOT awesome!" I didn't have anything planned for the day so some of my classes and I took field trips to move my stuff ourselves. Then I let them play games while I cleared out cabinets and unpacked the bio stuff. This year students aren't allowed to use phones at all throughout the day. It was nice to see them interacting and talking instead of being phone zombies. It also was nice to be with some of my friends. I'm now part of "The Cool Wing". The atmosphere is definitely different from the drama and frostiness of where I used to be. I actually heard one of my work besties with her voice raised talking to the head building rep. I was too busy to go see what was up but she did NOT sound happy. It was good to not have to share my room with anyone and to have study hall duty with a total of 3 students so far. Speaking of sharing my room--I have 3 in-class support sections. I had not heard good things about how that all worked. It used to be that the special ed teacher would only spend like 2 and 1/2 class periods in the room each week. It didn't work out well. This year she will be in the room for the full 40 minutes of each class 5 days of week. It sounds like a MUCH better arrangement. The OCD dude that I shared a room with last year was as OCD as ever. He wanted all of my stuff out ASAP. Like he even made me take my fun colored Expo markers. I said he could keep them and he tossed them into the bag of stuff I was packing. Bro has some serious issues. Anyway overall it was a good day and much easier than the ones I dealt with last year. . . multiple field trips aside. It was just 1 day so we shall see but I am feeling positive about the year.
