I haven't posted a discussion in a few days. Too busy to think about it, and way too stressed. I had some messages so I thought I would just make a discussion to state what yesterday was about. Some of you may recall that for some reason we could not pinpoint the cause of my son's eye problem. His eye has been having random and frequent hemorrhages, and it sounds strange, but when it happens it's a shocking amount of blood. (Sorry for the description if it upsets you, there is no other way to put it.) This started about 6 weeks ago. In that time, we have been to his primary care provider, a regular eye doctor, and two local eye specialists. No one had any answers, even though tests, etc. were extensively done. There is an eye specialist in another city that is one of very few that has advanced degrees in working with severe eye issues, so we were referred to him. This was yesterday. Up early, I drove the 110 miles or so in fun Labor Day weekend traffic, and the appointment. It was surreal--that's the only way I can describe it. This doctor cleared his entire afternoon and evening for my son. He did more scans, X-rays, tests, you name it. It was discovered that my son has a tumor that involves several large blood vessels. The tumor appears to be attached to the side of his eye by his tear duct, and it also is partly attached to the tear duct. Obviously, the eye is very inflamed. It bleeds daily with no warning, and it is not a small amount of blood. He was given some strong IV antibiotics. Surgery will be scheduled for this as soon as some of the inflammation is down, etc. and of course we will do everything we can to get him over this. Doctors have no reason for why this happened, as it is extremely rare. (Son made the comment that if it's rare, lately whatever it is shows up around here somewhere!) Yes, we have been told it could be cancerous, but also that it could be benign. They do not anticipate that he will lose his eye, but it won't be an easy surgery. It was a very long day. He was in there for hours, then we had what would normally be an easy drive via interstate and such to get home. Usually just about an hour and a half...it took a lot longer, due to Labor Day weekend traffic. It felt good to be home again. Yes, I post about my son a lot. He had been doing better, and things were starting to look up for him. We are going to treat this as a setback and remain positive. We WILL get through this, through faith, love, and modern medicine.
