Have you ever locked your car keys in the car?? How did it feel? How did you get them out? I suppose its hard for the newer cars, but the older cars are great to get into if you need to get them out..I worked for a car dealership and they always called me to get the keys out that they have locked in the cars...I myself have never done this (touching wood) with my own cars..

I used to do it all the time. I've locked my keys in my house too. I'm pretty forgetful. Thankfully I have keyless entry now so I only lock my car with my keys... so it's pretty much impossible to lock my keys inside of my car..... I'm saying pretty much. I wouldn't doubt I could easily end up doing it somehow!

Unfortunately when I locked my keys in my house my landlord was away and there's no way to sneak into my apartment. So fortunately I had extra keys to my car in my purse and my parents have a key to my apartment so I just went to my parents after work and got their extra key so I could get into my apartment.

We have left the keys in the car, with the car running. A police man helped us..Talk about stupid..We had just left a function of some sort and were in a tizzy about that, so we stopped at Kmart and because we were all being stupid and arguing over nothing, we locked the keys in the car, with the engine running...That wasn't the first time either..One time we had to call our neighbor to help us..I know what you are thinking...lol...You better be knocking on alot of wood because now that you mentioned this, it is going to happen to you..mark my words..lol

I do leave my keys inside and lock. But I have a pouch I always carry with me as my arm's extension. It contains money ,glasses, pen, cards and the duplicate key to the car.I always get out of the car with the pouch Involuntarily. So no problem for me;until one day I forgot the pouch in the car and locked myself out.Then---It is another long story.

well that has never happened to me...something worse happened. I lost the keys. I went out a night, and i lost them at about 5 am. I searched for them for a long time but nothing. I never found them. Good thing that we had other set of keys and an emergency key, because changing the car's lock costs a lot of money.

I have only one key for the car and another is misplaced long ago. I use the key carefully and ensure I keep in my hand when I get out. But it happened twice that the keys were left inside and I locked the door. Luckily at one time, the mobile lock smith was nearby and he opened the door with a set of keys identical to my key. In another case, an engineer in a foundry came up with a steel measuring scale and he inserted into the Lock pad area and got it removed. If these helps are not available in time, I would have been in some deed trouble and call the MOBILE SERVICE UNIT OF THE CAR who would charge something like $5 to $8 for their service depending on the distance I stay.

Yes I should get it done at local key maker. It costs $3 and 2 hours. Thanks for your comment.

I locked my keys in my car a couple of times. Once, someone helped me get it open with a clothes hanger. The other time, a campus security used one of those fancy tools to open the lock. I felt really stupid both times.

It has happened with me...once or twice, when I forgot my car keys in the car keys itself...and also forgot where did I keep the duplicate keys. But with the help of a mechanic, I could open it. Now a days, I remain very alert, while locking the car and ensure that keys are not left inside. Good Post!

I have yet to lock my keys in my car (knock on wood). I'm too paranoid about being locked out that I check to make sure my keys are in my purse 2-3 times before stepping out of my car. :P My husband on there other hand has locked the keys in the car at least 4 times since we've been together. LOL

Hi there. This is something that Im quiet familiar with... Theres been countless times where, without thinking straight, Ive locked my keys in the car... This is annoying when it happens, just lucky enough Ive done this at friends or families homes...

It is very annoying but like you said lucky at home or friends, I couldnt imagine if you were out or at the shops, how horrible it would be.

This is funny reading this today. I was in town, talking to a shop owner, and out front there was some people trying to get into there car that had locked their keys in. I am n o good trying to get into cars. My hubby can though. Which has come in quite handy over the years. Quite a few times i have done it. Best wishes to you, calais

Yes, indeed, but now our auto club gives out those plastic credit card shaped keys that work a few times in an emergency, so we haven't had to break into our own vehicle or call the mechanic to get it open in years. The most embarrassing time was when we both got out and locked the doors at the same time while the motor was still running. Help came really fast, but it was still a wake-up call and we have been very conscientious since then.

Gee, I havnt heard of those keys.... LOL...That would have been bad..I bet there was a moment of absolute silience as soon as you had realised what had happened.

Thanks for not assuming we cussed (although one of us might have) ! The plastic keys are given free to AAA (American Automobile Association) members in the US. They have bailed us many times. I wish they were available more widely.

One time we locked our car accidentally with the key inside. We were at the gas station, it was winter. My hubby filled the gas, and then he asked me to get cup of coffee inseide the convinient store. Because i wore the thick coat, i didn't realize that my coat sleeve locked the door when I step out of the car. And slam bam...car was locked. The store attendant helped us by calling the local police. The police usually has those gadget to pick the lock.

yup, and those little tiny store can only hold the store attendant, so we gotta stood outside in the cold waiting for the policeman come and open our car!

This used to happen with my technical adviser on the field one day, he went to the wedding. He forgot his key inside the car. So he had to break in the car to get it. Because he was away from his home around 60 kms. It was not convenient to get it. Then he replaced the new window of the car.

Yes, I have done this a few times. I have solved the problem by always carrying around spare car keys. I have them hidden in a little compartment in my handbag. It is embarrassing.

Yup, have experienced it a couple of times with our white Toyota Corolla car, and my, it was horrible. My son became so crossed everytime I did it...had to retrieve the spare key in the house in order to open it...with my car today, I have not experienced it because of its feature: it cannot be locked unless you use the key, at least at the driver's side. I guess it's the same with an automatic car lock where you have to get the key from its ignition in order to lock it...that's a safety feature so it becomes forgetful-free...forgetfulness is really expensive in terms of time....

I have never in my life done this until recently when I have a car that I only have one set of keys for. I had the car for 4 months and locked my keys in it at least 6 times. I keep saying I am going to get another set made up but keep procrastinating. I have a door that does not have a door handle and so it never gets locked...I break in that way.

Yes, I've done it numerous times. My first cars, the wire coat hangers did the trick and cops or security officers used to help out around here, too. But the cars got harder to break into and easier to damage. The police and security no longer wanted to do it, because they might be liable for damages. The last time I did it, it was a sub-zero day and every person in the parking lot that day took turns trying to get in. The time before it was a nicer day, same thing. I had to call triple A both times and have them send a lock smith. They cost a mint! Like $60 bucks here. They tend to me 2 or 3 towns away, too. So if you need them fast, you'd better find a place to keep warm and a bathroom so you can wait without dying. My husband did it with his car running. I heard him on the phone begging me to pick up the phone less than 1/2 hour after he had left for work. He went into a store to get coffee and he left the keys in the car with the motor running and he locked the door and shut it. I had to grab his spare keys, jump into my car and go help him. Luckily, I hadn't left to go shopping. He's done the same for me at least once.
