How do you decide where to put your Christmas tree in your house or apt?

Where to put a Christmas tree! - Christmas tree in room

I have a very small apartment and I've been here 4 years and have never put up a Christmas tree! I'm planning on doing it this year if only for my granddaughter to enjoy when she is here with me which is very often lately. I like to have my tree in front of windows and if it wasn't for my desk and pc stuff that area would be a perfect place for it. It would be between two windows facing the main street. It's going to be a job but I'm thinking of moving everything to the right as far as I can and fitting a tree to the left of my computer. I hate it when there isn't space for what I want to do but I'm usually good at figuring these things out. Do you have a specific place where you put your Christmas tree? If not how do you decide where to put it? Do you have to move things around like I do?

I've always liked the tree in front of the window, ctry. Even if I have to move some things around, I always manage to make a space for my tree in front of the window. I live on the 5th floor but you can spot my little tree when you are on that side of my building when it is all lit up at night. By all means, move whatever you have to and put your tree where you would like best to have it. It will be well worth the little bit of extra trouble.(:

I really don't mind the trouble I'm going to have to go through to put it where I want it. In fact I've already started moving things a bit at a time....and I don't even have a tree yet!

Last year we didn't put up a tree because we weren't in town for Christmas so it seemed kinda pointless to put a tree up. This year I don't really have a particular spot to put it, I figure I'll put it where its least likely to catch fire or get triped over by some random drunk relitive.

It is pointless to put up a tree when you're not going to be home for Christmas yet I know people who do it. I guess they just need help getting into the spirit of the holiday. Yes, watch those drunk relatives they can knock over a tree in the blink of an eye can't they?

I have to have an artificial tree because of my allergies. I can't even be comfortable visiting someone who has a real one because my throat closes up and I can't breathe. You have a deal....we'll help each other make room for our trees....only I don't have mine yet!

We had tiny one that sat on a corner table in the lounge. Now that we have settled into our apartment, we will be buying a new christmas tree and it will most likely sit in a corner by the window, which in our case I have to move one of our lounge seats just to place it there.

I wish all I had to move was one thing! I have to move my whole desk and an end table that's next to it filled with junk! Maybe I'll start getting rid of the junk!

I don't have that problem because I don't celebrate this very pagin originated holiday. Which is not nor ever has been Christ's date of birth.

You are right but I think most of us celebrate Christmas for other reasons whether it's right or not. I do it primarily for my kids and grandkids. Not to mention it's a holiday that my family has always celebrated and has become tradition. I think tradition is the key word here.

WHen the kids were younger I had more space and finding a place to put the Christmas tree was easy. Later we had less space and even had to buy a smaller tree. Nowadays I have no space whatsoever. So we had to resort to our imagination. For the last few years we started a new tradition. Forget about the traditional Christmas tree - no choice since there is no space for one - and let's paint one :) We use our living room door - which is also my room and hubby's - . The door is white, so we start with a blank canvas, so to speak :) We paint a Christmas tree on the door and each one of us adds some decorations - either painted or glued. It's our tree. And it always ends up looking great. When Christmas is over we just repaint the door :)

NO, not much in terms of mess, but we do have to repaint the door LOL We had no choice but to come up with an idea because none of us wanted to have no Christmas tree at all but there was no place to put one no matter how small. So one day we were talking about it and my daughter said something about drawing one and from there the idea took form. The funny thing is that now, some of our friends that actually do have some space have been taking the idea and having a painted tree too :)

Talk about an innovative idea! I love it and there's no mess to clean up either is there? How did you ever come up with that idea?

We always put our tree right by the front window. I guess it because we want people walking by to see the lights.

I have always put it in the corner nook in my living room right in front of the door, (we have to use the other door) it has a window so it faces the road. But this year I now have a large closet near it so there isn't room there and we like to keep the door passage open. So we are going to put it either in the other corner between the two couches but it doesn't face the road, or right in from of the window but that would be right in the middle of the room which I may feel like it is swarming me (claustrophobic) but I haven't made up my mind. Right now it is just telling the kids to wait til december to put it up. LOL They would have it up now if I let them.

lol..kids make Christmas don't they? I personally like a tree in the middle of a room but if you're claustrophobic I guess it wouldn't be such a great idea.

Now here are the things we consider before we put our tree anywhere: 1. Animals that climb in the house? Yes, put it where you can anchor it. No, it doesn't matter. 2. The tree, is it beautiful all the way around or does it have one or two bad areas? Beautiful all the way around, put in the window. One bad spot, against the wall. Two bad spots, in the corner. 3. Amount of decorating you want to do, all the way around? Window location. Part way? Wall or corner We cut a tree from our woods that was growing into two others, so it was definitley a corner tree. We also didn't want to spend two days decorating a 7 or 8 foot tree. It's always in the living room because that's the only place we have room. Take care and hope you find a good place that you're happy with.

It's awesome that you get a tree from the woods. I on the other hand am allergic to them so wouldn't be able to do that. I always decorate the whole tree and I guess that's because artificial trees are always perfect.

We usually have a specific place to set up our Christmas tree. Our living room is adjacent to our dining room, and it is also open to our family area. So we put up our Christmas tree at the intersection, so it's visible to all those areas. Before, we put it up at our living room, at the corner. But we feel as if there's too much work, because that is where our television is set up, so we have to move that before we can start with the tree. And it's really difficult to find another spot for the television set. So now, we never put the tree back there again.

Between the two rooms sounds like a great idea. My daughter has much the same situation and I might tell her about it. It will definately work for her. Thanks for the idea.

Yes we have to move a few things to put our tree in front of the window. It doesn't look right any where else besides, it looks so pretty with the blinking lights through the window. Even though it's very hard to see from the road because we're a bit off the road, still the lights blinking can be seen.

Ours goes in the same place every year because it's the only place it will fit without causing a problem.

We usually put our tree in the same place every year. We put it there because that's where we have the most room, so it's the most logical place for it, and it's out of the way of normal foot traffic so, more than likely, we won't knock it over and knock things off of it. We do have to move things around though. Every year we have too because we end up putting some small things there, but it's not so hard to move them.

We pick a room which has the most space, and either have a very small tree, or else we scoot some furniture around til everything fits or else something gets put away. ^_^ It's not usually the headache, even though we've never lived in very big places. No...the real headache, after we move places, is figuring out where to put our beds lmfao. I wish you luck though, and hope you find a space for your tree.

Hi ctrymuziklvr i would have to say that my house is quite big but with all the stuff that i have in my family room i usually have to move something around to place my christmas tree infront of my window. You could always place a small tree on a table in the corner you know just big enough for your granddaughter to decorate.

We have a specific place, only because we don't really have another choice!! LOL we always had a 6ft. fake tree that went in front of the picture windows in the family room, but now we got a new little cabinet/table with a record player in it from my Grandma, so we had to downgrade to a 4ft. tree so that it could go on top of that! There's really no where else to put a tree that would make sense, so the smaller tree looks nice there, and makes more room underneath for presents!!!
