Well this morning in Minnesota we woke up to a wind chill of minus 13 degrees farenheit. Very cold finally. Now I took this photo of ice crystals formed on my screen door on my back porch. I love the detail in all ice crystals and just wanted to share it here. What do you think? Do you like staring at ice crystals as they change shape as the warm up? I do. It's an amazing sight actually. Thanks. It's finally going to ger REALLY cold Saturday evening. Single digit readins and maybe even a few below zero readsings. As I like to say....I live in either Minnesnowwwwta or Minnesobrrrrrr! Hahahaha!!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This is a very pretty photo of crystals. It's quite interesting how they form symetrical patterns. Years ago, I tried growing crystals, but couldn't get it to work. My daughter also tried making crystals last year, but no luck then either. It certainly is very cold where you are. We would get a shock if it got that cold here. At the moment it is 35 degres here (about 96F).

Now this is awesome - Cool looking. Many many ice crystals
Here's a shot of the door window taken at the same time. It all melted from the sunlight quickly though. I have this as my desktop photo. Like I am looking out the door. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

WOw...you got real cold..and here I was just putting up decorations outdoors this afternoon in a denim jacket. I have been fighting the urge, but have not put the heat on yet. Of course, having 2 labs who sleep with you does help. So how do you dress for this kind of weather...subzero in November must mean approaching absolute 0 in January. Brrrrrrrrrr.

Well, you asked for it now. HAHAHA!! How to dress for a Minnesobrrrr winter day..... First off are the thermal long john pants and shirt. Then thick wool socks tooped off with another pair of thick wool socks. Jeans and a shirt. Then a sweater. Then a snowmobile suit. Then insulated boots with foot warmers added for extra warmth. Then an outer Parka. Then a wool stocking cap. Then a scarf tied around the neck. Then the hood to the parka tied tightly. Then another scarf around the nose and mouth making it easier not to breathe the harsh cold air. Then a pair of good insulated gloves. Also add some hand warmers for extra warmth. Then over those a pair of snowmobile mittens. I think that's all there is. Just pray as ytou finish that ya gotta pee. HAHAHA!

Wait you wear a snowmobile suit and then a parka and you say this is in August? Only kidding. Okay, you wear more outer clothing then I own. And check out silk long underwear, much warmer then the thermal and feel so nice to wear. Get your life some for Christmas, she will love them.

Hi Grandpa Bob! Very nice pic, thanks for sharing. Here in Canada we get really cold weather (below zero celsius) and I like to make pictures out of the ice crystals on windows, glass, etc. Luv & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear.

As far as your comment on the photo of it turning out so good. A little editing did the trick actually. I sharpened the image quite a bit to get the details. Then I changed the lighting effects to show the details even more. But it is from my window. I love to edit photos to make them very crisp as you can tell from most my photos. Thanks also. Thanks for the picture GB. I lived in Pa most of my life and then moved to Texas (where is does snow on rare events) and am now living in Wisconsin. I was worried when I first moved here due to the stories of nasty winds, tons of snow and very cold temperatures. Well, I love it here and the winter is beautiful. Although the temperatures are lower here than they were in Pa. it is not as cold since it is dry here. When we get lots of snow and I look across the field I imagine I am seeing the same sight that the person saw when he wrote "in the lane snow is glistening" as it twinkles as if filled with lots of tiny diamonds. The snow in Pa was wet and heavy while the snow here is light and fluffy. And the hoar frost on the trees is amazing. Just goes to show there is beauty in everything, just depends on where you are. lol

The more moisture in the air the wetter the snow. The drier it is in the air the fluffier the snow becomes. So that's why Texas snow is mostly fluffy. (I think) HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well, I was referring to the snow here in Wisconsin as compared to the snow from Pennsylvania where I grew up. I lived in Texas for 14 years and only saw snow 3 time. Sad part was it never snowed for Christmas.

That's a neat looking picture. I do like to see them when they are starting to melt. It is getting very cold where you are. We are still in the 60's but it's supposed to start getting colder. I wish it would get colder because it doesn't even seem like Christmas is almost here because usually it's real cold by now.

That is something I would never experience in my place. I live in a very warm country that is why we only have two seasons in a year that is the wet and dry seasons. Maybe someday I might be able to see and experience seeing a snow first time in my life that would be great! Although there is a place here they say that when wet or cold season arrives ice crystals form on the leaves of trees but no snow falls at all its just that water vapor just freezes.

We only have two seasons here as well. The joke is that we have Winter and Road Construction seasons in Minnesota. HAHAHAHA! I lived in Southern USA where it's always warm and missed the cold and snow come this time of year. So I prefer my cold and snow and also the road construction season. Well not that much for the road construction season. HAHAHA! Thanks for a response also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

you should get here when it gets to minus 40 celcius, which is minus 40 fahrenheit. then you know minus 13 is everyday life here in winter, actually we are in winter right now over here. it all started last week, snow I mean. Now the ground is completely covered

I've experienced temps around 30 below. Windchills so cold your nose freezes due to the extreme cold. In the early 70's we had 24 days in a row of minus 20 and colder. Went to the store once and hardly set foot outside during that stretc except for work. So I am not new to the severe cold. HAHAHA! We're expecting a few inches come Saturday finally. Up north has a few inches to near a foot in spots already. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

How bout both? Minnesnowwwwta and Minnesobrrrrrrrr. After all, it's cold and snows up thar. Sometimes ice crystals will catch my eye if the sun hits em just right and I'll stand/sit for a bit to observe them. I think they are neat-looking.

Holy cow..it's 13 degrees with the wind chill?? We're supposed to get a tad colder but nothing like that yet. We've still be rather balmy here in the big apple with near 60 degree weather..weird if you ask me. It's never been that warm so late. Love that photo...almost looks like a drawing, doesn't it? Nature is sure amazing with its beauty

Nothing like a brisk morning to get you stirring! I love it. I am ready to hibernate and just spend time relaxing without all the running around....well I got a couple of things to do before I snuggle in for the winter!

Oh I somethimes mis cold weather and snow and all that. Where I live if it goes to 0 C than we are panicing. I dont even have a dicent jacket the last one I got was about 8-9 years ago I only wear it 2-3 times a year so it will last me another 50 or so years. I do love the snow and how clean the air is when it is snowing. I remember when I was young (and living in Europe) I loved watching the snaw fall or I would spray water and watch how it froze.
