Would you rather be a butcher, a baker, or a candle stick maker? And although some of you may going, what? I think a lot of you know what I'm talking about. But I don't. It comes from a child's nursery rhyme, right? So would you rather be a butcher, a baker, or a candle stick maker? I'd rather be a candle stick maker. I don't want to deal with blood, I'd gain weight if I baked all the time, so that is out. But it would be cool to make candles in different shapes and sizes. I mean they don't all have to be 'sticks' right? Wow, I must be really tired.

I used to be a baker and still am at home. I am not fond of touching raw meat....never made candles...it sounds like fun! My first candle would be a pastel blue with seashells.

I have one of those! It's round and fat with seashells inside and around from the middle of the candle to the bottom of it. I have a pink one just like it as well.

The candle stick is to put the candle on, and they can be interesting and cool and creative. I think I would like to be the baker, because I love to feed people, and everyone loves really good bread.

Based on when these nursery rhymes were written, you could be right, I should have said that I think of them that way. My sister says I have a bad habit of stating my opinions so firmly that people think they must be fact. We can make tall taper candles and put them in even taller holders, and Jack Be Nimble will have a heck of a time jumping over them without singeing his drawers.

I always think of a candle stick as those long and tall 'stick' candles. Shows how much I know! : )

FYI about the rhyme. A lot of the nursery rhymes we know were actually political commentaries when they were written. For example: Ring a ring a rosie (which we now say ring around a rosie) Pocket full of posies ...etc. Was a little verse about the plague! I think this one was a commentary on the Irish potato famine and the policitian who did nothing about it. I'd tell you more but I don't have enough points to do a cut and paste from Wikipedia!

Really, you must be tired, I haven't seen you post something like this before.. I think being a candlestick maker is good, but I think I would rather bake..(The baker can bake all natural wholesome goodies.. )

I would greatly appreciate a baker who made natural and wholesome goodies. I know they must exist, but I don't know any! I can make fat free blueberry muffins that taste awesome, but to be honest, that's cheating. They are from a mix.

If I had the money to start an all natural bakery and know for sure it would be a hit, I would do it..

All my ancestors were butchers and graziers, they all had shops in the nearest big town to where they lived in Leicestershire in the UK. When I was about to leave school I said I wanted to be a butcher and my mum nearly had a fit, not a ladylike occupation so I ended up in an office. At that time I did not know about my family history it is only in the last few years when I have been researching it so I suppose it must have been in my genes. Butchers shops are now a dieing breed as the big supermarkets are taking over and all the little shops are shutting their doors

That truly is a shame. I don't like small or family businesses closed because of big corporate companies. It doesn't give those businesses a real chance of competing.

I would preference the candle stick maker but only if I get to use only 100% pure beeswax for the making and not paraffin at all. I love the aroma of beeswax.... I would also like it if I raised the bees myself (or at least my family) for making the wax for the candles and perhaps my family could also grow the cotton to make the wicks out of too! that would mean we would also have well pollinated gardens, a fresh supply of honey - and cotton seed oil, cotton for fibre, and cotton hulls for whatever that is used for.

Now that I know beeswax and soy are better candles for the environment and for my allergies that is all I buy when I'm buying candles I'm actually going to burn. They are so much better.

I would be a baker. I love making all kinds of bread. Nothing smells better than something baking in the oven. Is that the same nursery rhyme that starts out rub a dub dub, three men in a tub? I always wondered what three men would be doing in a tub. They sure have some weird nursery rhymes for kids.

Well, i would rather be a candle stick maker... like you... i do not like the sight of blood... and i hate it when i can't eat all the cake that i make... i don't want any to go to waste either... so candle sticks are the best for me... They can be stored... and are usefull when there is no electricity... the nice ones can also be given as gifts for all occassions...

This time of year is tornado weather for my state as well as other states, so I make sure to have several candles handy. I haven't ever been in a tornado, but I've had my power knocked out because of one. So I have quite a few currently.

I also have a lot of candles in the apartment... the weather in my country is so unpredictable... and the power lines are usually cut when there is a strong thunderstorm...

Hahaha. I'm going to have to go with candlestick maker as well. I could probably make room for some type of candlestick business in my pottery studio (that is when I finally get my pottery studio). I definitely couldn't be a baker because I am way to crazy for carbs.

Carbs are a girl's best friend. Seriously, I'd take carbs over a diamond. OK, well maybe not, but I'd at least consider it! : )

Get any sleep yet? Since you posted this 9 hours ago I am hoping that you have. I would not want to be a butcher. Although I think being a candle stick maker would be kind of fun, I would have to go with baker. I love to bake. I don't need to worry about gaining weight because I don't eat much of the stuff I bake now anyway.

Great point! I have wonderful memories of making cakes and cookies with my mom. I would spill flour all over the floor, and she would be very patient with me. Then my sister and I would argue over who got to lick the beaters. I don't know if mixers even use beaters any more, but the kind we had back then were two detachable beaters. I loved it when we made a chocolate cake!

I dont thin I could be a butcher, I wouldnt be able to deal with the blood either. Being a baker, it may put you off eating bread but would be cool creating different cakes and stuff as for a candle stick maker, you can never ahve too many candles. I think this would be fab, especially learning how to make scented candles!! They dont have to be sticks, thin, small, fat and tall. It would be fun to see what different shapes you coudl make and add loads of candles together to make a really colourful one!! My mum knew someone who made candles, they made her one like this. Lots of colourful candles all squished into one, you could see all the colours as they would let it cool down before adding the next colour so they didnt 'run' together. Must have taken ages!!! lol

Definitely NOT the butcher! I think I would choose baker...as long as I don't have to be the dishwasher! The candle maker is a close second though. I have made candles before and that sounds like fun too.

LOL! I think I am with you. I don't really like all the blood associated with being a butcher. Plus, I prefer the meat I do prepare to have no resemblance to the animal that i am eating. If I were a butcher, the reality of it might bother me too much. As far as baking, there are only a few things that I can bake, and bake well. I do better with the cooking aspect of the kitchen. Baked goods is just not my forte. Don't get me wrong, like I said. There are a few things that I bake really well. But, it is too hard. With cooking, you can do a pinch here or a shake there. With baking, most things have to be really precise, it all takes much longer and, I tend to burn myself more than I do with the regular day to day cooking. So, my only choice then would be a candle stick maker. I love candle. I have them all over my house and, to be able to make my own might prove really fun. So, that is my choice. Something I can use with little to no mess and that might be more fun than getting all bloody or burning a bunch of cookies! LOL!

Baker. I love the chemistry and creativity of baking. You can do so much with basic recipes. Then there is the pleasure you bring to people by baking something that really excites their taste buds. Definately Baker. I'm tired too!

WEll I think for me as I do not like blood and guts I would have to go with the baker as i love to bake and it would bring out the creativity in me and I could sell my stuff so I would not have to be eating it and call it Hatley's Bakery . that might e fun or maybe a combo I could create unusual shaped candles and sell them on one side of my store and my baked goods on the other .lol.

HHmmm...definitely not a butcher. That one is easy. Baker- I watch those cake decorating competitions and shows like Ace of Cakes and WOW does that look like a load of fun! But, I am addicted to certain brands of candles...so I it's a tough call. Hmm...baker I think. I would want to be the baker.
