This morning when I took my son to school, gas was $3.61. I went out at noon and it is $3.99. Wow, what a jump. I suppose they are going to blame this large jump on the earthquake yesterday. This is totally getting out of hand. My husband drives to the next town to work, which is about a half an hour away. It is costing him $65 a week in gas to drive back and forth. We talked about moving closer, but we would have to sell out house. We could not get out of it what we need to pay it off. He can't get a job closer to home as most of the factories are closing and there just aren't any. What is a person supposed to do? We have cut back going anywhere. I have even cut my son's therapy back to every other week because we have to drive 45 minutes to get his therapy because no one in our town will take him. He has CP. I go nowhere during the week at all. I don't work, as my son would lose our help we get on his medical bills. It is just crazy. I am sure we haven't even begun to feel the pressures yet.

Some people would advise purchasing a scooter or an electric bike to save on gas, but a half hour commute might make that problematic. Then again, weather, in my humble opinion, could probably put a real damper on trying to commute that way. One thing to do is try to find someone else nearby willing to carpool. It can help to split the cost of gas and miles on the car.

My husband did purchase a scooter, it helps, but also costs to do upkeep and maintance to it also. There is no one that he works with that lives anywhere close. The weather has not been great either, he has been caught in storms several times. It is a shame that it has come to this.

At the rate the gas prices are going up its a little scary. Will the prices to down or keep going up. The only thing that most of the consumers can do is buy the gas anyway. It's not like you can protest the price of gas. It would be too much trouble for people to do that, missing work, etc. The sad thing about the gas going up is really the consumers can't do anything about it but ride it out and hope the prices go down. There will be alot of cut back due to the high prices.

Wow... it's $3.85 here now in northwestern Pennsylvania and we're the highest in the state. It's unreal and I don't think we have anything in sight for a reprieve!

I agree...it is crazy. I drive 30 minutes to work too and then 30 minutes back home and sometimes I have to drop my son off and pick him up at the babysitters (either my mom or my cousin watches him). It's costing me about the same as your husband if not more per week and it's getting ridiculous. These prices are going to have to go back down and soon cause people aren't going to be able to do anything cause they can't afford the gas.

I'm sorry to hear that finanes are so bad in your home. We are facing financial crisis as well and having to make cutbacks. Right now I'm using Mylot earnings to pay for groceries and some minor bills. I'm working at making my blogs pay off. Best of luck with the finances.

and its just gonna get worse. the government doesnt care about all the low income people that are struggling right now. all they care about is that their pockets are being lined with big money for doing nothing. sometimes i wish the world would come to an end and we wouldnt have to worry anymore.

I am very sorry that we have to pay so much for gas. Even the costs of food is going up. All I can say is be sure and buy your gasoline is the coolest part of the day so that you can get the most gasoline for your dollar. Cool makes the gasoline contract and heat makes it exspand.

This is a very bad situation for low income group like us. I just wonder why govrnment is not taking any drastic step to control the situation! This gas price rise is getting very hard on general people. Hope they will come out with some good solution very soon. I really hope you can sell your home in a good price very soon and your problem will be atleast partly solved.

I understand your complaint...gas is extremely expensive everywhere nowadays. But you're still lucky to be in the US because trust me, it's very cheap there despite all. Here in Europe it's at least twice as expensive than there, if not three times, depending on the country. Let's hope that by some magical or not magical reason someone makes this stop and we can have a more reasonable gas price.

In Ontario Canada we buy gas by the litre- its now $1.22.9 or $4.69/ American Gal. Canada is a country of Huge Distances. for instance the whole of the British Isles would fit nicely into one of the smallest of our Great Lakes (Lake Ontario). We drive 12 miles for the groceries, and its 20 miles to Walmart. Our car is a Toyota Matrix and we get 36 miles to the Gal. So its really not that bad!

This is very sad that expenses are getting higher and income is remaining constant, but all motorists must find some in-genius ways of combating this problem.

I hear ya.. some friends of mine are finally tying the knot this weekend but I'm seriously considering not going! Because of the price of gas to get there! In fact I just may stay at home all summer.. except when hubby will ride the harley somewhere.. so I guess I might get our a little. But as far as having spare money this summer! Ha! I'm trying to figure out how to make my food bill way less expensive and not have the natives revolt! I could eat a lot simpler.. but not my picky and spoiled family!

There are market forces that are driving the price up. People are buying oil and gas futures hoping the price will rise even though there is a surplus of gasoline. What we need to do is to contact our elected officials and DEMAND that they allow drilling in Alaska, the gulf coast, the east coast, the west coast, and in the interior of the US. We have at least 60 years of oil reserves in the US that we can drill for and use while they look for alternative fuels. We can start using Nuclear to produce electricity. With the new technology we can now drill safer, cleaner and be more environmentally friendly than we could 10 years ago. Once the decision is made the Future price will start to come down and the current price will follow.

it's teetering on the edge of $4 here too. i'm betting a lot of people won't be able to even get to their jobs soon.they just voted to raise the bus fares here also,so the fare will be equal to 1 gallon of gas roundtrip.you can't win :(

The pinch is really on. It is incredible. I wonder how long this can go on. Makes life rough for all. I was listening to the radio this morning where this analyst said most of the oil being purchased now is going into reserves. And that the reserve is 97% full. So congress is trying to pass this bill that puts a freeze on purchasing of oil for a amount of time. That should drop prices for a while. If it goes through.

When I took my son to school this morning gas was $3.69 when I went to the grocery store an hour later it was $3.77! It just keeps going up and up with no end in site! Those stimulus payments are not going to go far with all the money going into our gas tanks all the time!

It is getting worse and wrose everyday.. My husband and I live on SS and it isn't enough to pay the bills as it is.. We used to do flea markets to make a little extra to buy groceries, but you spend more that you make with the gas prices and the table fees to set up.. I don't think that anyone cares what happens to us and I don't think that they even care enough to make up reasons for the high cost of gas anymore.. My son will be moving in with us at the end of the week and I don't know how we are going to feed him, with groceries being so high.. He lost his job because he had to drive for an hour each way everyday and his gas was costing him $25.00 a day.. After he lost his job, he is now losing his home.. So really no one cares about us.. And you are right, it will get worse..
