I just read an article that says you should replace your bras every 3- 4 months! Is this true? Did the writer research how expensive they truly are. I buy new ones every year or so what about you?

Oh my. I guess I am in trouble. I am lucky if I can get a new bra once a year. Of course I keep 3 so that I can wash out my bra at night and hang it up. It's so hard to find a bra I like and that fits right and is comfortable, that I tend to stick with what is working. Why every 3 - 4 months?

Ok the article said( I wish I had kept the link) that washing breaks down the elastic. Certain detergent ingredients can cause fibers to break down hence lessoning support. At the end of the article It said sometimes you can go as long as 6 months.

I bought 8 last year as I was going travelling but I tend to just wear them to destruction. They are so expensive! I've even been known to wear one that I had to continually poke the underwire back into just because I was too broke to buy a new one lol Maybe if everyone stopped wearing bras then the bra makers would lower the price...but I guess a lot of men would be happy at that and a lot of boobs would head south lol

I buy a new one when the straps are fallen down more than they stay up...no matter how much I tighten them. I can't stand that!! I have no idea how often- probably once a year or more. But, last time I bought the "no slip" ones from...playtex, I think...they work great so I imagine it will be awhile! Why do they say to buy them so often...? And just who are "they" that say this...? lol

I find that if my bras do this to often I will take a thread and needle and tack them to stay in place. But like you I started buying the Playtex and Bali and now I rarely have that problem.

I would probably buy my wife a new bra periodically .. just to make sure she doesn't put it off and neglect herself that way because she thinks it's too expensive. I would, but I don't because she'd just get annoyed with what I purchased. I have, on occasion, offered to buy her something new when we are out. I don't know from first hand experience, but I have heard often enough that good supporting bras are important. It seems right to make the effort and ask if she needs anything new. My wife usually says no. I'm not sure why.

Are you kidding? OMG i have some that i had eight years ago. As long as nothing is broken why replace it? The person who recommended that must is probably in sales. Bras are so expensive. I hate wearing the things. On very hot days when your at home and remove it for the evening your 10 dgrees cooler or so it seems. Lately i have bought sports bras. Just to check them out. I feel flater but they are more comfortable. Still i wish we could go without.

Wow every three to four month that is not really even geting any wear out of the bra especially if you wear a different one daily which is recommended. That would run into some serious cash buying all those bras so often. I buy mine as I need them or if they get to big or small. I couldn't afford to replace them that often though especially since they are so high atleast the good ones are. I like Bali and Playtex and that is the brand I usually get, they last forever it seems.

I tend to get a couple of news ones every year, but I don't think I replace them every 3 or 4 months. I generally replace them when they get worn out. I have several bras, so they take a while to wear out. Sometimes, I will get a new bra when I get a new outfit that requires a different kind of bra than I already have. I tend to use the older bras for my more casual days until they finally just wear out so much that I can't wear them.

I only replace mine when I absolutely have to. I hate going out and buying new bras. I never can manage to find ones tat are comfortable.

I buy bras, once in every 6 months. So that makes it twice a year. I think it really depends and one should not be prescriptive about bra usage. I am thinking of the premise of this research, well, if the premise is you are using a wired bra, maybe, to avoid the rust and the possible contamination, 3-4 months allowance in buying bras seem to be reasonable. :)

I think that's just a load of rubbish! Yes it is true that the residue from your skin you get on them is detrimental to the elastic. And I suppose if you didn't wash your bra for 3 or four months it would be proof. If you are a little more hygenic and do wash them and you didn't rinse out the soap properly that might do some harm to the fabric too. But certainly not every 3 or 4 months. Even if I could get a cheap bra that I liked I certainly wouldn't replace it so often.

Oh, dear...it takes me about that long just to get used to a new one! Sad to say I wear mine until they fall apart. I think the one I have on right now is about 2 years old. I recently took my daughter to find new bras, as hers no long fit (she lost weight). After six or eight stores, we finally found some that were actually comfortable and looked good once her shirt was on...the bill came to almost $100 for three bras!!! I can't imagine replacing those every three to four months. One thing I have found helpful is air drying. I have two teenage girls, so there are quite a few bras going through the wash, and they've held up much better this way. Just my .02

Every 3-4 months?! That's crazy. I guess if you only have 1 or 2 that you are constantly washing then they would probably need to be replaced more often. I am very small chested so there are days when I don't even wear a bra (days when I don't leave the house) so they don't get that much wear. I replace mine whenever they need replacing...maybe every year or two.

I replace mine every 5-6 monthes. They are expensive but they are the most important wardrobe investment you can make. They are the foundation and truly need to fit properly for your clothes to look good on you.

I work at home and I really do not get out and go to many places so I hardly ever have to wear a bra, thank God. they are so uncomfortable. I usually only have to buy them one time per year, if that because I really do not have to werar them and wash them alot. I have had to buy some new ones last year though because I gained weight and my other ones were uncomfortable and didn't fit right.

I buy new ones when the old ones are about shot. They are way to expensive to keep buying every 3-4 months.
