Online grocery shopping that turned into a mission.......

To complete. My food shopping bill has been rising slowly for the past few weeks to the point that last week I went over my budget, I cannot afford that to happen all the time so I decided to give this online shopping a go basically for those who do not know it is like a virtual supermarket online and I can do my shopping online and get it delivered. So I signed up with them and armed with my shopping list I started the shopping. It took me two hours to get all the things I wanted, I was getting so stressed that I nearly just gave up, but I did not and eventually did it. I seem to have saved money so that is all good, and my shopping is going to be delivered tomorrow afternoon! It is good that I can do this, I think in the long run it will save me a lot of time, and hopefully will save me some money, or at least keep me within my budget. Obviously I cannot get everything on there that I want, but all the things I did get are a lot cheaper than I am paying for them at the moment. Does anyone else do their food shopping online? How do you find it?

Hello gemini_rose, I've done my grocery shopping online for years now. Since I don't have a car, it works really well for me, as I'm able to do this independently. I currently shop through 'Grocery Gateway,' but am sure you'd have a different one over there. I'm from Canada (Ontario). I found that once you've done the first order, they put everything into a special list, and then you can just pick what you want very easily. All I have to do is look up anything that's not on this list, so it goes quicker after the first order. The delivery charge is reasonable, considering the high cost of gas, and the groceries are carried right into my kitchen. Happy shopping.

I hope you do find this service in your area, LouiseKnittel. Then you can maybe try it out, and see how you like it. Things will go much smoother for you, now that you'll have your list each time, gemini_rose. I find it really makes a difference, and it's much easier to just add a few items at the end.

Yes it is a reasonable delivery charge here too, for now anyway! My list will be saved so that next time should be real easy!

I WISH I could do my grocery shopping online. I have a chronic illness (fibromyalgia) that makes be incredibly tired all the time. Once I get home from work, I don't have any will to go shopping. I have given myself a limit and only go to the grocery store once a week, but that trip still does me in. I can only hope that we will get some type of grocery delivery/online service soon!

I was just thinking the other day I wonder if we can do online shopping in my area. As I want to stick to a budget too. I usually shop every few days, to get a few things that I need, but everytime I end up spending more then I intended. I think online shopping would be really convenient and it is good way to stick to budget. However I don't like the fact that it took you two hours, don't know if I have that much patience, lol. Good to know that it is cheaper buying online, thanks for the info. What online shop do you shop at? Probably don't have it here.

The second time is much quicker as the site saves your previous items and so you can choose from there as well as the actual store! ~Heavens~

One of the things that I always forget is that I am not in the same country as everyone else! I shall try to remember for the next time I start anything like this.

I did not know that you can do your food shopping online. It seems like a different thing to me, but I wonder how that will get delivered. Are they going to send it all to your door? You're going to have to be home when they send it over.

I would love to be able to do my grocery shopping online but I do not know where to shop at for the best deals for my area. We live in the country and I am not sure if they would deliver food here. I have other things delivered here though.

Hello Rose! Sorry that I have responded to a few people here in your discussion but I am well experienced in this as I did this when my boy was a baby as we had no car then! I haven't done it now for a good three years but I was happy I could answer some of these peoples questions and I like to help out where I can! I do think that will be beneficial for you as I found the prices on most items comparable and was happy that they offered fresh fruit and vegetables that I never had a problem with as well as dairy and meat products just like the regular grocery store and with the cost of gas the delivery charge is minimal in my thinking! If you do an order once every couple of weeks or even once a month it likely will be a help to you and then just go out to get milk and bread etc, in between (And stick to those items!) I do hope you find it beneficial! ~Heavens~

It is not a problem, and thanx for the help! It has been a lot easier for me this week so far in that I have not had to go to the shops for anything and so I should save some money this week now too!

HI gemini, I haven't tried that but sounds great! We have a place here in our town which is knows as Aldi and we can really save a lot if we will have our food shopping there..The prices are lower than the rest of the stores! Anyway, if I can find something online, that is cool also because we can save some gas..LOL!

really? wow! I never thought you have it there too! ANyway, when I need to drive that far, I better choose the nearest store too because we will be spending on gas also back and forth!

We have Aldi in UK too, and it is a great place to shop, the food in there is really cheap. Unfortunately the nearest one is about a 30 minute drive away and it is just too much hassle to keep going on a regular basis. I mean, I hate shopping as it is, without it taking me all day with travelling time!

I've never shopped for groceries online. I'd love to not have to go out just for the few things I need, but I always thought it would be much more expensive that way. Is this your local store that offers this, or is it something that is delivered by mail or other delivery service?

It is a company called Tesco that I am shopping through, they are a pretty big company nowadays. They are all over the UK, and I spotted an advert on tv and thought I would give it a go, I do not think it is doing me much good carrying the heavy shopping bags. The good thing is they do not have a minimum spend but I do have to pay a little delivery charge.

ive been doig my grocery shopping with peapod.com (connected to stop & shop) for quite a few years now. and i simply love it. it isnt just the money saving on the items themselves.. but on the gas to get to the grocery store as well. delivery is only 6 bucks, and with the price of gas as it stands now.. itd cost us way more than that to travel three towns over and back again. the added perks? shopping whenever i please.. no worries of store hours, theyre always open! no crowds to deal with, no lines at the checkout, no traffic to or from, i dont have to carry any bags, and i can do it all in my jammies if i so choose.. and it is brought right into my kitchen on the day i want it there! once you get familiar with the site yer using so you can nagigate it easier.. youll find it so much more convenient and worry free, youre going to just LOVE it!!

Yes I am a newbie to it but already I can see it would be of great benefit to me, in a lot of ways. I will not really know until the end of the week if I have benefitted savings wise on it but I reckon I should do. Yes I think I am going to LOVE it too!

As far as I know that's not available to us at the moment, but it sure is something I can use from time to time. Some weeks I just don't feel like dealing with the hassle of doing the shopping, so being able to do it here from my computer would be great. Although I'm not sure if I could. Sometimes I like to look at the boxes and read the labels before I decide to buy it.

Yes they do have a picture and all the nutritional info etc that people want to know. But the thought of not having to go and do a big shop tomorrow is bliss, I am going to have at least an hour now of extra time per day or more!!

normally.. they have a picture of the box, as well as all label information for each and every product. so you can still be a reader and compare ocontents online as you would in the store

I have tried grocery shopping online but i found it got me really stressed out too, and the amount of time it took me to select all the things i wanted, i could have gone down to the supermarket and had it done quicker!! I think if you were to do it regularly and get used to it then it would probably be time saving and perhaps a little cheaper, but it's not something i've made a habit of!I hope it works out for you the way you want it to though, i can imagine it can be a mammoth task to go to the supermarket if you have kids you have to take with you!!! xxx
28 Sep 08
That's really good then, at least it won't be as stressful or time consuming next time!! apart from that you don't get tempted to buy things you don't need when you see them in the shop, that's where i fall down, i think "oh that's on special offer i have that" but i don't need it at all, and things are only a bargain if you're gonna use them!! xxx

I have never done my food shopping online before. I know that one grocery store that is near me will let you shop online and then you go and pick it up. We've been trying to save money so we went to a store yesterday called Aldi. I don't know if you have one near you or not. It's where you get foods at a cheaper price. We got a cart full of groceries and only spent $61.00 so that made me happy. I think I'll start shopping there more often.

We have Aldi yes, I used to shop there once a month, but it is quite a way to go to just do the shopping so I stopped. But it is a great place.

I do my shopping the usual way. I get dressed and drive to the store. I would love it if there was a way here in the US that I could shop online and save the hassle of going out and shopping. I am not only disabled and it a hassle that way. But the gas and the huge stores that is hard for me to shop in and manuver. Time wise it's just too much for me. I have to rest for a couple of days for the outing to get food for the house. Hooray for you having something so convient and it costing you less too. That is wonderful.

I have never grocery shopped online. I don't know that it would be a good deal for me since I live in a small town away from any online places that could get things to me inexpensively. I hope it works out good for you, though.

I would love to online grocery shop, every time I look at one site it looks complicated so I dont follow through also that and I work in a supermarket so dont see the point in spending my day off going to another supermarket when I work in one!!

I don't think that we have any places in my area that do online shopping. If they did let me tell you that I would be the first to sign up. I will definitely pay for convience. Probally about 8 years ago a couple of companies tried it but it didn't work for the companies. At that time the items were a bit more than if you did the shopping yourself so it was a limited number of people that opted to pay for the service. I would say that if it didn't work then, and financially it seemed people were doing a lot better, I don't know that it would work in most areas. But I would love for it to come back.

Well maybe it will come back, it is a really good idea and although the first time was really hard I think it will get easier with time.
