Do you put cooked carrots or other vegetables into your rice?

My favorite way to cook rice is to add veggies during or after cooking. Today, I decided to add cooked carrots. Made the rice taste so yummy. And, then, other times, I mix canned veggies into the rice after it's cooked, instead of serving them as side dishes. I'm trying to think of clever ways to turn that rich dish into a baked casserole style, maybe something topped with cheese. What do you think? Have you ever added cooked veggies to your rice while cooking? What type of veggies do you mix into your rice after it's done?

I love taking a box of Rice-A-=Roni and I add fresh homegrown veggies along with some type of meat to it. This makes meals for at least 2 maybe 3 days usually. Have to stretch every penny spent as much as possible and this is how I do it with rice dishes etc. Somewtimes I will just cook rice then fry up a pound of hamburger and add a few spices baking it in the over with cheese on top also. Tasty and cheap. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

A hamburger based rice dish? Are you a genius in the kitchen, or what? How about taco rice. Just like regular tacos, with spiced taco meat and rice. That might be nice.

That would work as well. After having to cook for a lot of people at a restaraunt I learned a lot of neat little dishes to make cheaply with rice. Just one of my little quirks and things in my life that I love. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Try adding a packet of Ramen spices to your rice. That works for me. Rice is very bland in it's natural cooked state. No need to suffer! Spice it up!

I add vegetables into the rice if I am cooking something that calls for that. Otherwise I dont really do that. I like them seperate most of the time. Once in awhile if I am making some sort of one dish meal the rice, cheese vegetables etc. all kind of get mixed together. It's good that way.

i have not tried to add on top of rice any vegetalbes. i don't have any idea on what to add cause this is just new to me. but it is good to do i may try to learn it. i have not read this kind of things in books. well i don't usually like to read about recipes about rice cause i thought that i know every thing about how to cook rice and so i totally skip or don't put much attention on rice recipes. i may consider toping a rice while it is cooking. and hope that i will love it.

I do like to add different things to rice. It is very filling. I like to put tomatoes in mine, either fresh or canned. I also like to put peas and onions in rice. I have even made pico de gallo ( jalapenos, onions, cilantro & tomatoes) and mixed it with rice. That was very good! I use rice in soups and I sometimes mix it with beans. My mama has a great mexican cook book (that I need to borrow and write down some of the recipes) that has plenty of rice dishes in it!

Yes, I like to add cooked butternut squash to my rice and sometimes I even add some diced pork chops or sausage for a different kind of one dish meal. Adding some cheese would give it a nice casserole flavor. I am always finding new ways to fix some of my grandmothers old standbys. Like adding fried spam to baked macaroni.

I do not like plain rice, my husband can eat plain rice everyday. I always have to have something to change the taste of the rice. Actually, I fixed this for me the other day. I would saute onion, garlic, green pepper in olive oil. When everything is tender I dice up a nice red tomatoe, and then add the rice and stir it together and let simmer for a while. It is really good.

Hi beautyqueen, Emm, the way you cook the rice sounds tasty! I seldom do that....except I will make the fried rice. I think put carrots into the cooking rice is a good idea, because the sweet of the carrot can go well with the flavor of original rice...I will try it! It seems I do have learnt a lot from mylot~

hi beautyqueen. Your rice sounded delicious to me. I would like to share my tomato rice. First saute some crushed garlic ginger, shallots and garlic. Add some milk and canned tomatoes. Put it some raisins, cashew nuts, carrots and peas if you like. Lastly add rice. My son loves it. Eat it with chicken curry. sure to make mouth waters.

The best thing about rice is it usually has only a very mild flavour of its own. However, if you want to get the most out of the dish..flavour-wise, you could use basmati or some other flavoured rice. If you are not too concerned abut calories, you could wash and dry the rice, and mix a little turmeric in it, to give it a golden yellow colour. Then heat oil in a deep pan, add one small chopped onion and fry until golden brown. Add vegetables (carrots, beans, peas, cauliflower, capsicum go really well according to me). Stir a few times and add the raw uncooked rice. Keep stirring over medium flame until the rice appears to change colour (this should be done in 5-6 minutes). Add just enough boiling water to cook rice, usually 1:1 rice to water. Now add ginger (if you like the flavour), green chillies and salt to taste. This is delicious. Alternatively, if you are calorie conscious, boil rice separately with salt in lot of excess water and strain. In a frying pan heat a little oil, add garlic, onion, boiled vegetables and monosodium glutamate (optional, but it DOES have a great flavour) and saute. Add to rice and mix really well. If you are not averse to a little sweet taste, you can add a couple of bay leaves to the first preparation and add sugar after the rice is almost cooked but there is still some water left. Important: if you add sugar before, the rice will NEVER cook. I also have a great recipe for carrot rice...will let you know if you are interested.

I usually don't put veggies in my rice. Except when I make spanish style rice I add corn and chopped peppers. It's SO yummy and gives it so much more flavor! I always try to think of new recipes that involve rice as it's a house favorite.

Yes, carrots and brocolli. Rice is probably the most healthy food we eat and that is only about once a week. Could be worse I guess.

I have added cooked veggies to my rice and I also like to add fresh veggies, like broccoli and mushrooms. If you add these and some shopped chicken that is cooked already, a can of mushroom soup and some milk you get a kid friendly mealt that takes 20min to make, The best part is only one pot to wash.
