I think this constant reference to "joe the plumber" is getting so old. It's really pitiful that all the republicans can do to boost up the platform a bit is to pull out a poor plumber and use and over use the dreaded phrase.. I can't stand to hear it any more.. Nothing against the real Joe who is the plumber..but enough is enough.. This is a perfect example of the republicans being unable to get on to something new..it's always the same ole same ole

I am sick of Joe the plumber and I probably have it worse than you because he lives very close to me. I know everyone is stuck on this redistribution of wealth but, if my husband and I were making over the 250,000 mark than we wouldn't mind paying the extra 3%.

Oh kuddos for you..you have the facts. I have watched all the debates and Obama each time restated as you have here..that it's those who make over 250,000 and he mentioned himself and mccain ..would see higher taxes..Gosh you know, I don't think I would make 250,000 in a life times;SHEESH.

You kind of miss the point. Obama says he's going to raise taxes on Joe. He's not going to stop at Joe.

I'd rather see Joe the plumber get a tax break even at $250,000 a year. That way maybe Joe can hire more people like Welfare Wendy and Deadbeat Dad so they can become a working mom and a child support paying dad. Just try to get a job from a poor person and tell me how that works out for you.

Ya...it was "old" from day one. I know many independent plumbers and they make some pretty darn good money. The independent ones always seem to charge a bit less than going to an established business. Because of that...they get business. The only ones that would get targeted by Obama's plan are the ones making very good money. It was from the get-go a ridiculous argument.

The one's affected by Obama's plan wouldn't even know they lost that tad of money..yet they are complaining because someone told them they would be paying more then they are now.. It would be nice that the rich pay something of taxes .

Definately. I wish I could expand on this more, but there isn't much to expand on, this was just some guy that asked a question, who happened to exagerate his situation. Who really cares? So yes I definately think Joe's 15 minutes need to be up.

Yes..the 15 minutes have really been extended to 15 days..I don't know how long now but it's constantly the returning cry on the other side of the fence.

Joe plumber who? You know politicians, they would go to any height to pull off a political stunt. It happens all the time, the wise people need to be able to differentiate between something sincere and something which is fake. Though, I must say that it is really bad to claim that someone is the average person and he or she represents the entire community. Everyone is specially in their own right. At least that is what I feel. :) cheers

Amen to all you say there. I do believe there are many stunts and backflips that our candidates are doing during this intermission.

I don't really think its a republican thing. Both sides are trying to convince the "average joe" that they are regular folk like them, and understand what they are going through. Mcain just happens to have taken it literally by finding a plumber named Joe. But you can bet both of them aren't going to do anything to help the average joe once in office. In an election promises were meant to be broken.

I agree that they both talk about lowering that taxes..I haven't really been able to follow them close enough to see if it's every 5 minutes. What will be interesting; however, will be what happens when it's all finished..When all the promising stops and the people look for these promises to be kept.

I don't know if they are both trying to get the average Joe..Only one side seems to leaning on Joe the Plumber to get some leverage..I don't think you will hear a constant referral back to the average joe by Obama.

Average joe is just a term for the everday average individual. The group with the largest tax base (according to our government), known as the middle class. You'll hear both of them talking about wanting to help the middle class...hmmmm I'm guessing every 5 minutes.

I think the whole 'election' thing is getting old. I am tired of hearing what others thing this person and that person has done wrong. All I want to hear is the truth and plain hard facts. I don't care how you see the other candidate. I want to know what YOU are going to do for ME and OUR COUNTRY......

Joe the Plumber is a metaphor to designate middle class citizens who are trying to get ahead in business. It is not unheard of that an average Joe has worked his keeshner off and made it big in business to the tune of over 250K a year, had to hire more workers and incorporate. What's the use in working to better oneself and dream the "big American dream" if the wealth is going to be dropped into the community bucket and redistributed to other people instead of saved and managed by the ones who earned it. In my opinion, the socialist ideas Obama has for our hard working citizens will only kill big business and demoralize those who want to venture into the corporate world.

THe biggest shame that overshadows America is that there are so many very wealthy with more then the can need in a couple life times and so many very poor who would never have enough for this lifetime..The have's should share with the have nots..That is the just thing to do .. Too many towers lit in gold and too many poor folks growing old!

I believe that once a company is incorporated only the business can be taxed for the business. Someone else can either confirm or correct this.

Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber, Hockey moms...I'm sick of the forced, insincere attempts to connect to the regular folks by the rich and powerful. It's sounded forced and contrived from the start. Learning that good ole Joe was not planning to buy the plumbing business anytime soon and that he had voted for McCain in the Primary came as no surprise to me. Who's going to be next to try to connect the priviledged to us...Joe the Preacher?

I agree. For the Rich and Powerful to try to league themselves like pals with the middleclass working man / woman is really quite unbearable ..As though they will give them a thought once they close the door of the Whitehouse?

The bizarre thing about this is that all the Joe the Plumbers and Dave the Hairdressers and everything else, are NOT MAKING anywhere near $250,000 a year - so they would get a tax CUT under Obama's plan, but they're so against because they think they're actually going to be making $250K in the next four or eight years and then Obama will raise they're taxes and they'll be broke. First of all, it's only a 3% tax hike, anybody making over $250K a year is HARDLY going to be hurting from that. Plus, the way I understand (I'm still not entirely sure this is true), the increase is only on the portion of the income that's OVER 250K. In other words if somebody makes 275K, the first 250K is taxed at the current rate, and only the 25K over is taxed 3% higher. But even if the whole thing was taxed 3% more, it's not going to break anybody's bank. The other thing is, why would you vote against a candidate who would give you a tax cut NOW, because he would give you a tax increase in the future IF you end up making much much more money than you currently are? Are these people so self-confident that they really think they're likely to be making $250K plus in the next four years? I daresay that for the majority of Joes and Daves and Lisas, it's HIGHLY unlikely that they will. I realize people have other reasons that they are not voting for Obama and prefer John McCain, but the idea that any middle class person would have as their primary reason Obama's tax increase on the wealthy, is bizarre.

These are really excellent points and I am so glad you jumped in. I continue to respond that most of the statements made against Barack Obamas have not groud or done due to a lack of understanding all the facts..Thankd putting some of them down here.
