Why are Obama's Kenyan relatives so happy he won? Did he make them promises, too? What has he really done for them? What did he really do for his Aunt? He took money from her that was not even legal..and she was told to keep her mouth shut. What did he promise these people...these relatives of his? http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/11/05/obamas-kenyan-relatives-erupt-win/

I don't think about any specific promises to them. I think that it is just the same as when a one of your family member made a big achievement then all the rest of the family will rejoice and celebrate for the achievement. And on Obama's case (Hello, he is elected president of the US) maybe the biggest achievement any Black American could imagine. So I think it's just natural for his relatives in Kenya to jump for joy. And as what I've seen on Tv, it's not just his relatives in Kenya who are jumping in celebration but all the rest of the world including Japan, Australia, Taiwan, France etc. That I think is a strong statement that the whole world is now one with Obama

If I made a next to nothing and lived in poverty and my relative did nothing to help me, and he became president of another country, I couldn't care less.

Is it really that confusing? A family member just made history. Most people are happy for their family members' success. Maybe they genuinely believe in him and his ability to turn this country around. What could he actually promise them? Do you have any ideas or speculations?

He has done nothing for them and he is a millionaire....I think he will bring them and many other blacks here so whites become a minority.

I have to agree with stylioJ. Of course they would be happy. Wouldn't your family members. Why do people have to be so suspect all of the time.

If one of my relatives were elected president of the most powerful nation in the world I would be ecstatic. However, as they say, blood is thicker than water and I would probably do everything possible to help my relatives of I were in Obama's position.

I think it's a shame Obama wasn't forthcoming about his relatives during the election. He's the president now and only time will tell what he WASN'T telling us before the election.

It wont matter, though. He did not feel he should be held accountable then and he will feel the same now.

That is my point. He has not done that and even denied who knew aunti was living in a public housing in Boston...even thought she sent him money several times and was told she could not talk until the election was over.

I think they are just plain happy to see one of their family members become the American President. I am pretty sure most families would celebrate that feat. Of course, it still has to be seen what he can do to Kenya or help it become a financially viable country in the first place!! Cheers! Ram

I have a feeling that we are going to find out about a lot of things he did wrong. I was hoping he wouldn't get elected. I don't know what American voters were thinking. I hope the people who voted for him realize that they just elected a man president that won't even place his hand over his heart and say the Pledge of Allegiance or didn't even want to wear an American flag lapel pin on his suit. He has deep MUSLIM ties, and has attended a church preaching a RACIST message for 20 years. Just remember one thing...when the sh*t hits the fan, and it is Obama who is behind it...Don't blame anyone but yourself if you voted for him...some of us were smart enough to vote AGAINST him...

"He has deep MUSLIM ties, and has attended a church preaching a RACIST message for 20 years" - can you spot the logical flaw on this quote? Oh the cognitive dissonance.

It is astonishing that they do not care.

Maybe they are celebrating that, despite the fact that his Kenyan father was never part of his life and never supported him, he went on to become successful.

Those implications about his family living in tents and huts are totally sterotypical and very uncalled for just because they are African. Now as far as them being happy for Obama, maybe it is because they see promise for America. Maybe it is also because he is a family member and although they may not personally know him, they are happy for him. That just shows your ignorance and the fact that you are all about money, I'm sorry to say. Some things in life are not about money. Haven't you ever seen a gameshow and become happy for a complete stranger who just won a lot of money? Probably not you, but I have. Nothing wrong with that. And why are you so afraid of Africans coming over here and doing what all other immigrants have done in this country. Don't you realize that you ARE already a minority?!

What is all this nonsense? If you were a Luo living in Kenya would you not feel happy one of your relatives had been elected President? Apart from anything else you might feel that such election might go some way to ease the corruption and oppression prevalent in both countries all the best urban

I guess this means he fooled his relatives as well. Oh well, they will soon find out what kind of man he is like.

They do have similar personalities -they want to be seen in the public eye and want people to look up to them in wonder because of the problems they solved. Do you realize that Obama has made more speeches and more public announcements then any other president? Oh and when I watch those old films about Hitler I am shocked by the similarities and the cheers of the minions. Oh and thanks for the best response.

He probably made a few promises to them.

Why are you so bitter and why do you assume so much based on absolutely nothing at all? It is this sort of negativity that made Hitler so very successful in caring off what he did...completly ignorant.

maybe he promised them nothing other than to be fairer to other countries, Kenya, included than this past administration has. Maybe they are happy that he won because hmmmmm...would not your family be proud of you too if you won such an election? Maybe the entire world is happy he won because they know he will be more peaceful than what they have been dealing with for the past 8 years. Bush made sure that we lost the respect of most of the world. At least Obama has compassion for these people and is not out to power over them with threats of war! Maybe that is why everyone is so happy. I say, give the man a chance. Even Colin Powell, a well respected, very intelligent republican took Obama's side. Does that not tell you anything? Oh and he gave his aunt back the whole 270.00 that she gave him in small installments once he realized that she was here illegally. I think we all need to pull together and work together and stop being so negative.

If my family member allowed me to live in poverty, I would not be proud of him. I think Bush deserves more respect. As for the reason Colin Powell went to Obama's side, there are a few reasons why he may have done that...that are not cut and dry. I don't think the situation is all that cut and dry with his Aunt, either. She told reporters that she could not talk until after the election. Now, who do you think told her that she could not talk until after the election? And that being the case, he knew she was here, he knew she gave money, he knew she was here illegally, and he knew she lived in public housing. I am not being negative. I am being truthful...and when your party wins it is easy to say let's pull together and stop being so negative. If it was possible, and Bush was in for another term, you would say that.
