I saw this, it is so sad. One man searches for an end to the hiccups he's had for one year. He says he is ready to die! He has tried alot of stuff. I feel so bad for him. What remedy have you used to be rid of the hiccups? http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/health/2008/11/12/lawson.year.hiccups.wlky

Hiccups are so annoying. I don't get them all that often and they normally don't lat very long. I normally try holding my breath. It seems to work. I can't imagine having them for a year. I would go crazy.

You know I just thought of something. Do you think he could be put in the World record Book do you? I mean he had them a year you think anyone else had them that long?

Hello ersmommy. When I was a kid, my parents taught me to drink some water or press the pulse on the wrist when having hiccups. It does work to me. But in most cases, I love to drink some water instead of pressing the pulse unless there is no drinking water with me. Well, I hope that this could be of some help to your friend. Good luck and take care, friend.

I have heard that a teaspoon of granulated sugar works or drinking a 10 oz. glass of sugared water straight down might help as well. I don't think I would have even lasted a year. It would have driven me nuts by then. Poor guy I feel for him. I know just getting them a few minutes drives me nuts..Also heard breathing into a brown paper bag works.

I have and they were very hard to get rid of. I always held my breath for so many seconds and that usually got rid of them fairly quick.

I found this messed up remedy for the hiccups that my teacher did on my friend! My teacher did this trick where it would work on just about anybody who's done this. I can't say everybody, but mostly everyone who's tried this... She told my friend to stick out her finger, and try to get close to my teacher's finger without touching it, and my teacher will slowly pull away from my friend give her a hard time to try to get close. While doing that... The mentality and concentration of her getting close to the finger is her holding her breath without her really knowing it while she's making the effort to get as close as possible. Hahaha it worked!

I've heard of a girl who had hiccups for pretty much all her life. Something about a TV show where they tried to find a cure for her. Hrm... can't remember the details.

That is really a shame. I think I have heard people being afflicted with the hiccups. You can run out of breath or something. There has got to be something to do for this. I have had hiccups in my day and even for a short amount of time they can be very annoying! I just try to drink as much water as possible or hold my breath like a lot of suggestions say to do. Take care and thanks for your regular posts.

Yes, when I was younger I used to have a bad case of hiccups. For some reason, I used to try to stick my tongue out and count to 10 but that did not seem to work. When I was in Elementary school, my teacher gave me the perfect remedy and it has worked ever since. I take a decent size sip of water but do not swallow it right away. I then plug my ears and swallow it. I repeat this 4 or 5 times and before long my hiccups have disappeared.
