My husband is a geek. Yes, he is. Oh, the electronic stuff he has!!! Our living room is almost consumed by his entertainment center! He loves buttons, dials, switches and anything electronic that actually does something. I'm flummoxed as to what to get him for Christmas! I've bought him tools that he doesn't have because he loves to tinker in the garage or workroom building things. I'd just like to get him a really neat (but not TOO expensive) electronic something-or-other but I just don't know what! I know it's hard to "shop" for someone you don't know, but any ideas would be appreciated! You might just have the answer I'm looking for! Any ideas?

How about Logitech Harmony universal remote control? It's a control freak remote control. lol It controls the tv, tivo, and dvd player - all 3 in one so there's some cool convenience there. The only thing I don't like about it is the setting up process cause it takes time but it's worth it once the process is done. One day though my husband could not wait to go from one channel to another so he kept on pushing and pressing this button and that. Nothing worked. Guess what he did? He went "Oh i hate you!!!!" then broke the remote control in half. I could not believe my eyes. I've seen remote controls thrown away but I've never seen a remote control cut in half! That was amazing and my husband looked so calmed down afterwards. I think he got back to his senses and realized that he broke his bestfriend. hahaha

Universal remotes are actually quite easy to program if you have the book with the codes. Mine were easy to program anyhow. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks, gicolet. That would be an EXCELLENT present, except that he already has one. It's a Logitech, but I don't know what the model is. He had to program this thing from the internet and it cost $500.00!!! It has pages and pages (electronic of course) of buttons and even gives you a little slide-show of pictures that you download to it, once you set it into it's recharging stand. He CLAIMED that he bought it for me to attempt to justify it's cost, but I won't go near the thing! It scares me! If he ever broke this thing in half, he'd cry for sure! But, he loves it! All I know how to do with it is pick it up and put it back down again. That really is hysterical about your husband breaking his in half! I pictured it in my mind and laughed myself silly! He must be awfully strong!

First of all, what is your budget? There are so many gizmos and gadgets in the store, ranging from a few dollars all the way to a few thousand. If I get to choose, and let my imagination run wild, I would probably get something from every department in the gadget store! Well, for starters, I recently got a free mini laptop which I am having a whale of a time on. Or you can see if you can get a GPS tracking system for the car? Or a multi-Ultra-Universal remote control that is programmable. Or the latest in handphones... the iPhone? I know a geek would love to own one. Or the latest game console, the PS3? The list could be endless. The only way to really suggest is to know your husband. Best is to go shopping with him and observe what he looks at to get a better idea of what he wants. Otherwise, heck, just get a gift voucher and let him get the gift himself!

Hmm... a phone with GPS that he cannot put down? What model is the phone he is using now? This is interesting. He seems to have a gadget for everything already. So it is now onto rides. Why a hovercraft ride? What is so special about a hovercraft ride?

I'm not sure what the model is but I'm asking him now through IM. He's at work so I have to wait... he's kinda busy at the moment. He says he wants a hover craft because he's always wanted to "float" on air, even if it IS inside a vehicle. He has actually been working on an idea of his for years now to do just that, only not with gasoline or air jets or anything like that. It has to do with magnets and electromagnetic energy. Okay, he just told me. He has a Verizon VX6800. "The Verizon Wireless VX6800 is a Windows Mobile 6 Professional Smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and trackwheel navigation. The Verizon VX6800 has a 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth and high-speed data." This info is compliments of http://www.myrateplan.com/cool_phones/1946/Verizon/Verizon_VX6800/

Aha, so you're a geek too, huh? LOL I can go up to a few hundred dollars for this gift. I may just end up giving him a Visa gift card that he could use anywhere he wants. He has a GPS tracking system on his phone; and he really loves his phone, by the way. We recently upgraded phones with our phone plan (every two years they give you a discount on a new phone) and he got something he absolutely will not put down! He also has a MEGA-remote control that he had to program via the internet! This thing does everything but the laundry!!! What he'd REALLY like is a hovercraft. I'm not talking about the little model-type ones, I mean he'd really like to RIDE in one! LOL I can't afford that!!! I think I'll stick with the gift card.

Well I have one suggestion. They have these MONSTEROUS universal remotes with lights etc. They are huge I tell you. Great idea for one that loves and has a lot of things run by remote. I know I'd love one. These are nearly as big as a newspaper too. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I could use that suggestion for myself, Grandpa Bob! The way he has this entertainment system set up, I need 2 and sometimes 3 remotes to operate everything since I'm afraid to touch "his" remote. He has the receiver, surround sound system (one where you can actually program where you're sitting in the room to get the best sound quality), a turntable, DVD player, VHS player, Wii game system and the cable box plugged into this monster of a system. Oh, I forgot the Sirius Radio thingie! Yep, he has that plugged into this system, too! Aaaaaargh! Men! (Gotta love 'em!)

Now, THAT is a coincidence, Grandpa Bob. Last year, he bought himself a HUGE TV... 52" sucker that just barely fit in the living room. So, for Christmas, I bought him one of those huge remotes to go with it! It's not as big as a newspaper, though. It's about 5" by 12" or something like that. He got a laugh out of it and actually DID program it to work. He loved pulling it out when company came over but I think it's already gotten old for him. Great suggestion, though; I thank you for it! If I hadn't already gotten him one last year, I'd definitely go with your idea!

Well, sometimes its hard not to want to give a "real" gift, but for hard to buy for people, a gift card is often the best way to go.

I know how that is! I'm going with a gift card. Whenever he goes to Amazon to buy an older movie, he ends up buying 3 or more! I'll probably give him a gift card for Amazon.

Im a geek here's what i would want: A 4g flash drive The remote is a great idea zoomba (not sure on the spelling, the automatic vaccuum for his workshop) rockband :) (youre never too old) or if he's into tools, my dad is obsessed w/ woodworking, but whatever his craft is hit up antique shops and flea markets and get antique tools. Ive built up quite a collection for my father, its historically signifigant, and it makes for a cool display of someone's hobby from the past and sometimes you can find the stuff for a steal. i think ive spent maybe 400 bucks total and have been doing it every year for christmas for the past 10. The stuff from the 1800's is really cool.

He DOES love antique radios, turntables and things like that. I love browsing around in second-hand stores and yard sales. You never know what you'll find. I found one really old radio (with dials and tubes!!!) that he adores. He doesn't have a 4g flash drive, though. What exactly do they do?

He's not really into playing games except little things that he already has on his cell phone and computer. He likes to tinker around with electronic stuff but I have no idea what he has or what he would like so I think I'm going to get him a Visa gift card where he can use anywhere. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I think i'm going to get my husband one of those kits that you can build a remote control whatever out of. He likes to tinker around, and they have these kits at the electronics store to build things. I'm also going to get him a bunch of spare LEDs, some wire, a few of those arduino boards, etc. Maybe he'll invent something? At any rate, maybe your husband might like to have some fun with circuitry, too?

Definitely, penguin!!! Great idea! He actually has an idea that involves LEDs. He's talked about it quite often but has never gotten around to buying the materials for it. I think I'll do that! If he gets some of the things he needs to get started maybe he'll actually build the thing instead of just talking about it! Awesome! Thanks for the idea!

Thanks, annjilena. It's so hard buying him anything unless he asks specifically for it! A train set sounds interesting, though. I'm going to "feel him out" on this idea when he comes home tonight. If he's interested, it's definitely something I'll look into! They can be great fun, that's for sure! We used to have one years ago.

There's a t-shirt at "think geek dot com" that has a drum kit on the front. When you touch one of them, they sound off! He could play a drum solo anywhere he is. Anyway, that's a great site for a geek. I got my son some "snow" from there last year and it's a good company.

Hahahaha! What inventive minds we have in the world, huh? LOL Drum set in a shirt... amazing! He won't wear t-shirts, though. He likes his button downs or polo shirts. I've actually bought both my husband and son (budding geek) things from ThinkGeek. I haven't checked it out this year; maybe I should! They just might have some new cool stuff that they didn't have last year. Thanks for the idea!

I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. Well, I'll get him a Visa gift card that he can use anywhere. It's so hard to buy for someone when they already have so much! Whenever he has extra money, he buys something or other that's electronic. (Of course, that's why I control the money now! LOL)

If he's more of a computer geek, get him a $10 gift certificate for NewEgg dot com. Sounds like he'd get more out of a $10 Radio Shack gift card though. Happy MyLotting!

Does he have one of the electric keyboards? If not that could be a challenge for him and if you get one that he can hook into his computer then he can make his own music. My brother-in-law did that and he is really good at it now!

I've never known him to be interested in making his own music but he does love music! I'll have to throw some hints his way tonight to see how he reacts. Personally, I would LOVE a keyboard that plugs into a computer! I have a large keyboard sitting on a stand in my little "do-all" room and it's just so bulky! Maybe I'll mention that to HIM so I'll get one for Christmas! LOL Thanks for the idea!

Well, if he is into Video games and stuff like that, there is always a Nintendo WII or the Xbox 360. If he is into Music, there is a lot of Ipods and such out there you could get him as well. Personally, I would think there is something out there you could consider getting him that he does not have, and would appreciate. Maybe you could secretly hint to what he might be wanting this yr. and then decide from there. I am sure you will come up with something.

GPS tracking system; yep, he has one. He has his "perfect" phone, BluRay DVD player, digital camera (well, that's mine but he uses it) and he even has a remote that will start his truck up from inside the house! I know it sounds like he has a lot and he really does! We're not rich, well, because he has all these toys! Money runs through his fingers like water. That's why I control the money now... or what's left of it! I'm happy to get a skein of yarn to make a sweater or blanket with but him... geesh! I think I'm going to the gift card suggestion; maybe a Visa gift card so he can use it anywhere. Thanks for your suggestions, though. I appreciate the thought that went into it!

Thanks, arcidy. He has a GPS system on his cell phone. Well, I call it his cell phone, but it's more like his do-all, be-all gadget that he carries around with him everywhere. Yeah, he's going to be a hard one to buy for this year, that's for sure! Thanks for the suggestion, though. If you can think of anything else, please let me know, okay?
