when President Obama spoke at Georgetown University. For some reason I can't paste the link to the article here but they claim it was so that the name of Christ wouldn't be seen out of context. Does this scare anyone else besides me? Can you think of any reason why the Prez would want it covered other then the beginning of oppression of Christianity? Or do you think I'm being an alarmist moron?

I have said it before and I will say it again. I am not sure why people find these types of actions from Obama so suprising. He did after all, agree that we should allow the mass murder of partially born babies so why would anyone think that this man would have any Christian morals at all. He is going to destroy everything that America stands for and those who voted for him are just as responsible

His stand on partial birth murder is what swayed me to vote for McCain. I don't care how "cool" he is, how nice he is, or how well he speaks--he doesn't care if babies are murdered. He scares me and the day he was elected I cried because I knew the country would go downhill even farther.

What is the reasoning behind partial birth abortion, anyway? Why not just let the child be born and put up for adoption? It makes no sense to me to let a child go through the birth canal only to kill it in such a barbaric way. I've not been able to find any good reasons for this, aside from the fact that it is just legalized infanticide. Do you know?

Yes, the country is in for a rude awakening. All the money that Obama is spending on the supposed rebates is going to cost someone somewhere majorly as well. Those babies that he hasn't succeeded in killing with partial birth abortions will be left to pay for all of this crap that Obama is pulling as well. Our little grandchildren and their children will be the ones who pay the highest price for the voters choice in this last election.

IMHO... you're being alarmist. Nothing fans the flames more than when the world sees an opposing force flying their banner high. In the case of the US vs the Taliban, I think that Obama's admin is just being sensitive to that implied message. The Taliban issues their decrees with a crescent moon in the background, and the US responds with their "God Bless America", like the U.S. has some kind of monopoly on God's blessing. If you're fighting each other, you're both outside of God's will. The Christian thing to do is to find common ground with the 'enemy', not highlighting differences.

Yes, but why did he want all Christian markings covered up?

To remain totally religiously neutral. In the middle east this is a religious war. Here is is called a 'human rights' war yet religious symbols are all over the place. This is Psyche 101... If we are going to talk it has to be on neutral ground. We cannot be waving banners in each others faces. You can't argue someone into becoming a christian, and it doesn't make sense to invoke the name of God while you are shooting at them.

It doesn't matter that this speech was on home soil... the President's speeches are seen around the world.

The reasoning behind covering the symbols is just plain redicuous. I am under the impression that other presidents haven't ask to have these symbols covered up. Yes i think that the end times are coming and have been for a long time. I don't believe you are being an alarmist moron at all. look around at the state of the world. The amount of earthquakes. The United states is going the way of Greece and Rome before their fall. Amorality is going up all the time and dependence on the government to take care of us is the in thing to do. Theses are the things that were the down fall of these two great societies.

I know what you mean but we need to remember that a lot of bad things are going to happen before Jesus returns. we must not get discouraged. Just keep our eyes on Jesus and know that he will take care of us. If He brings you to it He will bring you through it.

There has been a spate of natural disasters the past couple of years, and the weather is really strange. Morality is ridiculed. It's so discouraging.

The church just want every bit of propaganda it can get to justify its existence in this day and age. Since when not publishing something is oppression? And what is there to be alarm about? What can we... mere mortals... ever do to hurt our mighty God? Does he not have the power over us all? Including the planet? What are you scare off? It is actually quite funny when you talk about the oppression of Christianity... When Christianity has done nothing else for 2000 years... but to oppress other religions in forcing them to convert to Christianity. And when they refused... they were murdered.

Your last point is a favorite of those who are against any form of religion. Those days are done, they were wrong, and I hope those sick monsters who did those things have been somehow punished in the afterlife. No, mere mortals can't harm God. But when they cover up the name of my Savior in the presence of my president, I think of George Orwell's and Ayn Rand's novels of the bleak future. I can see it starting and I don't want my kids to deal with that. The American people are asleep, they are sheep that have fallen in love with the wolf. I know I shouldn't worry. But these past 4 months have really scared me. America is headed downhill, fast.

That would scare me, but I am not surprised. Obama is not really a Christian and neither were the men and women he chose for his advisers or cabinet. And many of his policies like having volunteers, forbid helping anyone who or any thing that is of a religious nature. You are not being an alarmist. I think the persecution that happens in the Sudan, India, and other Asian countries is going to come here to America. The oppression has started and they hope that since Christians will have to pay themselves, that we will soon run out of money and be unable to help. They did not realize that persecution makes us grow stronger and attracts more converts. And we all help each other. So they will lose and Obama and his minions will soon realize that.

You are right--when I heard about that and then read it, it just strengthened my resolve to honor Christ. I wonder if this is the beginning of the end times?

We suppose Mission churches in Sudan where there is a lot of persecution and instead of losing members, they are gaining them. So persecution has does not have the effect that the ungodly would like. They think by making it hard, that we will give up, but we have a sure hope in Jesus Christ our Lord and a mansion waiting in Heaven for each one of us.

That is the ultimate triumph of Christ--whenever believers have been persecuted, love for God grew and flourished. I'm in tears right now, had to take a break, I'm watching the 1927 silent film "The King of Kings" by Cecil B. DeMille. What a powerful film! I fled to my computer and yours was the first message listed in my email. God is so good to us.

No...your assessment is actually very accurate. Obama is a muslim, so naturally, he is going to start to oppress Christianity. His plan to move America towards socialism has already begun, so he is now going to start the plan to move the nation towards Islam...

I wasn't aware that he was a Muslim, he's been attending a Christian church for twenty years. But I wouldn't be surprised.

He "joined" that church because he knew he had less of a chance of getting to where he wanted to be if he was openly a muslim. The so-called "church" he has been a member of for so long preaches a racist message...not a Christian one, so it is easy for him to say to cover all references to Jesus, because he doesn't believe in Jesus...he is a muslim who is a "member" of a racist church...

In a country where Christianity remains the largest religion, I do find that rather disturbing. Presumably the action was to avoid 'offending' non Christians. Some people, I'm sure, look out for things to be offended by. It's such a shame that the majority must bow down to such a minority. I'm not offended by seeing religious references and I find it hard to understand how anyone else could be offended by seeing them in this context.

The college where this took place is a Catholic college! I find it very disturbing that he would ask and that they would comply. I don't care if I see religious things, no matter what religion, they're all pretty much the same God as far as I'm concerned.

That is kind of scary. Where did you get the article from? I know you said you can't post the link but maybe you can now and if not you can provide the news station that covered it. I hope that Obama isn't trying to oppress christianity.

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2009/04/16/white-house-asked-georgetown-to-cover-christian-symbols-for-obam/ There! I finally was able to paste it here! They claim they want a standard presidential background but I'm not sure that's the reason.

I don't know what to make of this latest news, but I sure hope it is not true as that would insult just about any person of faith whether Christian or Muslim. Muslims honor and revere Jesus as a Prophet of God and Christians honor Him as their Savior and pathway to God, but its all semantics anyway. Anyway, the three major faiths all believe and pray to One God, and to take away people's faith is just wrong on so many levels.

I'm glad you said that and that many people will read your words. Islam does recognize Jesus, people in my country have been taught the past 8 years to think Islam is a religion of hate. They don't read the Koran--I've read a little but not all--and they don't understand the basics of the religion, which has so much in common with Christianity. There are people saying that our President is a Muslim--then why would he want the name of Jesus covered? I think it's something more sinister than anyone can imagine and I hope I'm wrong.

I guess I forgot to mention the fact that I am an American as well. People often assume that just because someone is a Muslim that they must be from another country. Its all good, though. I get this a lot in my town, since I am the only Muslim revert in town besides the children.

i wonder what pro obama people would make as an excuse for this action or decision of obama. this is the worst mistake he has done so far. and i wonder when will we be able to see a stop on this ridiculous things that obama is making so far. if only those mistakes are few and far in between we could still understand but with these mistakes so close to the last one. it is just unbelievable .

They stated that they wanted them covered so that they could have a "presidential background". Before that, they said they didn't want the symbols misrepresented by the presence of the president. They'll think of another reason soon, I'll bet.

We can fight! We can protest as we did on April 15 and insist the government be returned to us. Our Constitution says our government is "of the people, by the people and for the people", not for the elite who want to run our lives. We need to take back our country and I think we have a good start. In one way, Obama is good for us because his actions are getting us off our butts and opening our eyes.

I don't think you're being an alarmist at all. These things need to be reported for what they are; and whether you're a Christian or not, you need to be bothered by it. This is not something that started with Obama. Getting Christ out of our lives has been systematically underway for several years. As long as Christ has first place in people's lives, the government knows they cannot totally control them. The government wants to control every aspect of our lives, even our thoughts.

Yes, it's been going on for some time. When I was in elementary school we had a wonderful lady that would come once a week and give us a Bible lesson. She had a special way of teaching that really engaged us and she was such a loving person. She presented God as a loving father, not a wrathful avenger. Most of us cried when our teacher told us one day that the lady would no longer be visiting because of a new law. I think that was the beginning of the end of religious freedom. This latest incident just serves to tighten the noose a little more and hopefully to bolster our determination not to be oppressed.

Obama is incredibly hypocritical and arrogant. I hate tell him--actually, I don't hate to tell him, so here goes--but Christians already have a Messiah. We don't need another one. Is it too soon to start thinking about impeaching him?

I would like to give him a chance because I'm not sure whether he has no idea what he's doing or if he does and he's trying to destroy the country. I think he should have an advisor that knows the Constitution and can stop him from violating it.
