Anyone who makes less than 250k won't pay a dime more in taxes...what a lie

Congress is not considering a new tax that would include just about everyone. A higher tax on "sugary drinks". Kool aide, soda, etc... YOu will pay more in taxes if Congress has it way? Why? Because Obama's healthcare overhaul plan costs 1 trillion dollars and he has only purposed 60 billion in new taxes to corporations and estates to pay for it. So taxing soda and other sugary drinks (which just about everyone drinks) they are hoping will make up the rest. I remember when Obama ran for president and his "un state of the union address" that he said no one making under 250k would be paying even a dime more in taxes". Well that was a lie. And this makes Obama a liar. What do you think? Even though health insurance companies are willing to do their part to help make insurance more affordable and control cost by two trillion dollars. It would seem that Obama wants a trillion more for the american people to pay for even more. I have yet to see the bill. But at a time when americans are already having a hard time. Increasing taxes on the general population in any form seems like a counter productive move. That means we will buy even less. When what this ecomony needs is for us to be spending more. Tell me what you think.

Actually President Obama was referring to INCOME taxes when he said no one making under $250,000 would pay more in taxes. Nobody likes more taxes on anything but at least when it's on something like soda people have a choice to not buy them or to buy less unlike an income tax increase or an increase in gas or other energy taxes. I think most Americans would be happy to pay a few pennies for a bottle of soda if it helped lower the cost of health care and make it accessible to some who have none now. It's great that the health care industry is willing to do their part to reduce costs or to slow down the increase but that alone won't solve the problem. I'm not so sure the insurance companies will be willing to give up very much. They're the ones who have been lobbying the hardest against any health care reform for years. The bottom line is everybody needs health care but currently many people don't have it and can't get it. In an emergency they can go to their local ER knowing they can't afford the bill which will usually be close to $1000 for a case of the flu or an earache. That cost gets passed on to all of those who can pay in the form of higher premiums and higher fees for medical care. If everyone were covered there would be fewer ER visits for routine illnesses, there would be more people getting the preventative care they need and the regular medications that will keep them healthy and out of the ER and costs would go down for everyone. There is no bill yet because it hasn't been worked out yet but one thing I've heard stressed over and over is those who have insurance and are happy with it will be able to keep it. I know nobody here wants to read this but if everyone drank less soda and other drinks that are about 90% sugar we'd all be healthier. I don't want the government telling me what to do or what to eat and drink anymore than you do but the truth is they may be doing us all a favor. We've been trying to cut the grandkids' soda consumption down for awhile now and believe it or not, they sometimes actually ASK for water or juice. Annie

"Actually President Obama was referring to INCOME taxes when he said no one making under $250,000 would pay more in taxes. " He NEVER said income taxes Annie. Not once. Putting words into his mouth won't make him less of a liar.

I agree soda is not healthy. I don't let my kids drink it. AT ALL. I even put water in my kids juice so they are getting all that sugar that in juice naturally. But that is my choice and decision as mom. The government is not my parent. They don't have the right to do this. Yes the rich will be paying more in income tax. The rest of us through buying products. EIther way we WILL be paying more in taxes and uncle sam still gets more of our money. It is a cash grab.

Sorry to post twice on the same thing Annie, but I wanted to give you clear and unadulterated proof on this one. Here is his EXACT quote. "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see ANY form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/promise/515/no-family-making-less-250000-will-see-any-form-tax/ As you can clearly see, he said ANY form of tax increase. There was no limitation to his statement implied or otherwise.

It didn't take that to make Obama a liar! What's amazing is that people actually believed him and even now don't see how they're being abused. If we pay all our money into taxes, though, we can all get on the government dole and the we can all do exactly what they say we should. I think that's what they're after.

i agree. THey want everyone dependent on the government so some degree. Which means taking more of our money.

I meant that he is a liar even without this issue. You're right, though... it makes those who believed in him and still support him, fools.

OK i guess i will be the one who stands out and doesn't say what everyone else is saying....."sugary drinks" are bad for people.....your pointing out about how "no one making under 250 k will be paying more taxes" doesnt quite apply in this areas because EVERYONE will pay more on these taxes on grocery items, so quoting that is basically just trying to stir the pot. Making sugary drinks like soda more expensive will lower people with bad dental problems FOR SURE....and it will also hopefully lower obesity...how is that a bad thing????????????????

It is not the governments job to discourage people from doing somethign that is "bad" for you. It is each person's RIGHT to make that decision on their own. I don't need Momma Pelosi and Daddy Obama telling me how I should live my life and taking more of my money if they don't like my decision. Basically that would punishing people for their decision. Which is NOT their job. I find it insulting that they think they can treat us like stupid kids. In truth, in order for their healtcare overhaul to be paid for they are HOPING that people still buy soda just as much as they did before. WHy? THey need the money. this is not about what is healthy. This is about money. ANd how htey can get their hands on it. And Obama did promise that anyone making less than 250k would not be paying "one dime" more to uncle sam. Well he lied. People who make less than 250K and smoke are now paying extra taxes to pay for other kids healthcare. How is that their responsibility and only thier responsibility? It is isn't. It is a cash grab. Same with this one. NO matter what anyone says EVERYONE is going to be paying more in taxes. THe rich will pay more in income tax. The rest of us more in taxes when we buy things. Either way Uncle Sam is getting more of our money. Which is counter productive to the problems in our economy. Not to mention wrong. The govenments wastes billions of dollars a year. I say when they can account for every dime that they spend then they can come ask me for more money. I have to live on a budget. So should they. I have to spend my money wisely and make every penny count. So should they. But htey dont. They waste and waste and then hold their hand out for more when they want it.

Well, you know, this is what I said all along. They can't do it without raising taxes on us one way or another. They can keep their promise of not raising the income tax, in fact, they can decrease it. But they can safely raise every other tax and fee and still keep their promise. People were just too blind to see it. I guess, now I get to say to all of them TOLD YOU SO!

Oh you can say a huge I told you so. They raised the taxes on smokers. Now "sugary drinks". Yep the average american IS going to giving more money to uncle sam. Another promise broken. No real surprise there.

Another thing they are doing is inflating the currency, and borrowing huge sums of money. Our current taxes are nowhere near enough to support Bush's and Obama's huge budgets.

Obama contradicted himself as president. I feel we may have chose a wrong president. Oh, where does the extra tax money goes to? Michelle's cost for style or another swing set for his daughters?

It goes to whatever pet project they decide to spend it on. We we made the wrong choice. Not only in president but in our members of congress.

Obviously he was just saying that to get elected. This is ridiculous, the government should not be taking over health care at all, especially when they cannot afford it in the first place! When will people wake up?

Forgot to mention, what a way to slow our economy even more! People will just buy less and less and they will not make any more tax in the end all they would have accomplished is driving soda companies out of business.

I agree. The government is messing things up worse instead of making them better.

What did anyone expect. Look at the local level and you will see how they will lead on the big stage. When Democrats are given a chance to create a new program they will find a new way to increase taxes. All I got to say is let us get use to it. When the tax-us-more-acrats and their supporters running the country right now this is what we get. Now we have got to fight back, I am not saying that we give up, but this is proof why instead of give government more responsibilities we should strip government of responsibilities. Their actions effect our life, and I am not just talking about those that are elected but your neighbor who voted for Obama and his party. Just because someone voted Democrat we will all get to pay more in taxes on sugary drinks, boy I hope they are happy.

I know they are also taking about taxing away the tax exempt statis of your health care payment in your paycheck. Instead of it coming out of your check before taxes it is not coming out after. THis is sure getting expsensive.

Once again, Obama is caught in a bold faced lie, and no Obama supporter comes out to defend him. But when you say something in support of him, they are all over that!

I have only met one politician that is not a liar. He is one of our State Reps. here in Fl. However, you do not expect your Pres. to be pathalogical. He must have pushed the wrong button on his teleprompter to lie all the time instead of just most of the time when he was running for office. I do know that the powers that be are hard at work making sure that there are just two classes of people in this country. The very rich and the very poor. The middle class is fading quickly. The Rich and the Middle Class vote. The Poor tend not to vote as much. They give up. So it is much easier to handle them, and keep control of the country if there are only two classes. At least until the poor get really angry...... Shalom? Adoniah

If anyone actually believed that 0bama would lower or cut taxes for anyone I've got some beach front property in Nebraska for sale. The middle and lower classes have always been the ones to burden the brunt of any tax increases. The soft drink tax or the Kool-Aid tax only hurts those of us who are barely scraping by as it is. He's also imposing a health care tax and a hospital tax. Two more taxes that will only hurt those who really need the help. Talk about kicking a man when he's down!

I said it so many times.....when they finished taxing cigs into oblivion, they would eventually get to other things. Personally, though, republicans and democrats are just two sides of the same coin; there is not much difference between the two parties now. If you really want change: vote libertarian, get rid of the federal reserve, drive the UN out of America. Until these things happen, it will be more of the same, and it will only get worse

I have to agree about the democrats and republicans. They are just fighting over control and how to spend the money we earn. Neither are asking the questions IF it should be spent in the first place.
