My computer is getting to where it runs really slow and freezes up a whole lot. I'm wanting to try to restore it to its original state, but it didn't come with a disk that restores it, so does anyone know how I can restore it? Thanks!

I did this once to mine - do at your own risk. But it worked for me. Go to Safe Mode and it will give you the option to do a "system restore" You can use the restore (forget the actual name) that takes it back to as it was when you purchased it and you loose everything you have put on it.. or you can do a Non-destruct system restore which takes it back to as purchased, but leaves alot of your things on there. I have done both and it worked fine...but do it at your own risk. I'm far from computer literate in most things.. but HP walked me through this and it worked for me. I just back January did a Non-destruct restore and it kept some thing I had and lost others.. but I don't have any that if I loose it I can't get it back. I have the disks for the games my grand daughater played so I just installed them again and then just did a search for the things that I had and didn't have the URL for and put them back on. Good luck.. if you have radio - call Leo the Tech Man (8888-askleo) and he could probably walk you through it. I listen to him every weekend! Or check out his web site - there is a good forum there with tons of information. good luck

The most effective way to boost up your computer is to format your disk and reinstall the windows system. You have to backup the data you need before that. Don't forget!!! I usally backup my operating system by using the dos-based application "Ghost" which is very popular among computer users immediately after I install a new operating system and all the necessary applications. When my computer gets very slow and no way can fix it, I usually restore it with that backuped file to a healthy state. It's very convenient and it only takes a few minutes. I highly recommend that day.

see if you can get hold of a copy of your operating system i.e vista or xp, ( they can be loaded from torrent sites) normally your serial number sticker should be on your unit, this will restore your sytem to basic settings with nothing else on!

You can find someone who has a restore/reformat disk and use it on yours maybe if it is compatible with yours. I have loaned mine out to 4 other people and they never had a problem using it. So hope you find one. Also you can contact the manufacturer of the computer and see about getting a disk for it there also. But it would cost you money maybe to do so.

If the computer did not come with a restoration dosk, then the data is propbably stored on a hidden partition. There should be a link somewhere on the programs menu to restore the computer. If you cannot find the system then try visiting the website of the manufacturer, where you should find details of how to restore everything.

I think you may be able to go into your control panel and restore it all the way back to the day you want it restored. You may also be able to call the manufacturer and they will walk you through how to reformat the disk to get it back to the original state but you will lose everything you have stored on it.

It sounds like your carrying a full load of either viruses, malware, spyware, or just plain badware. There are some freeware programs that can clean the crap. My favorites are Avast, Windows Defender, and Lavasoft. (Windows Defender requires a legal copy of Windows that it can verify.) * http://www.avast.com/ * http://www.lavasoft.com/ * http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx * If your infection is bad enough, these three will not do you much good, and as I don't know what version of Windows your dealing with, I can't help you further. * If you know what your doing, you can reformat the hard drive. You would otherwise have to take your machine to the shop and have the repair man attend the matter.

My laptop didn't come with original disks, but with Windows Vista already installed. There is a program in there where you can create restoral DVDs. It uses two disks, but if you didn't create them, you may need to take it to the repair shop and have them reinstall Windows for you. Perhaps then they could also supply you with back-up disks.. - Derek

Somewhere in your control panel you will find "restore to factory settings" or system restore. You wont need the disc for this. Depending on how old your pc is it might not let you do a full restore on it. I would first do a clean up on it and get rid of unwanted files, and documents that you dont need. Usually when there is too much stuff on your hard-drive, it will run slow.

I manually backup all the files that I have while I am still at the safe mode program of MS. I uncheck all the programs before the desktop loads where it arrived at the desktop it hangs up. And My solution as always and my final option is to reinstall the operating system again and again while my files are in the partition disk or dvd :(

Hi, I know alot about computers to you get your computer "back" the best way is to format the system! To this without having any problem is you to take your computer to a store that sells computers and ask them to format your computer and ask them to save you all the files you have this is not expensive depends on the service price of that store, and if it's a good store you will be able to get your "new computer" back in something like 2 or 3 hours :D Good luck! PS: Dont forget to say them to save all your files and programs otherwise you will lose them all!
