How early is toooo early to mow your lawn?

I have a neighbor who gets somewhat picky bout his lawn. Right now he's sprinkling his lawn & it's supposed to rain tonight/tomorrow. But he was out mowing the lawn at a lil after 7am! Now 7am is pretty early and to me common courtesy would say to wait til 9am just in case your neighbors are asleep. OR AM I WRONG? But to really shock you I've been up early to find him out at the crack of dawn mowing his lawn.... literally 5am! How early do you think is acceptable to mow your lawn? I think 9am. How about my fellow mylotters?

if you live in a hot place, 7 is not too early, but 5 is

It's only "hot here in July & August but this year seems to be the exception usually in the 70's to low 80's here in the upper midwest.

I've heard how hot it is there.... so hot crops are failing & no rain in sight. They forecast rain for us and it rains a whole 30 min and then nada.

Where I live, legally it is considered a noise violation if is before 8am. 5am is way to early. Let the morning sun dry up the dew at least.

I don't think the morning dew would stop him.... he's done it in the POURING RAIN!

I'm sorry to hear that nothing apparently stops this person. I would have to engage in conversation if they are this persistent.

i tihnk its too early when the grass is still very wet. mowing wet grass seems much more difficult and messy than when it is dry. that is why i prefer to mow the grass in the evenings. also, mowing wet grass sometimes cause the blade and the underside to rust from the water. i also dont appreciate people mowing their grass really early and wake me up when im still sleeping.

my elderly neighbor has a crew that came at 6:58 am one morning, and woke up my sick mom.i was livid.town law is no earlier than 8 am,but some of these crews ignore it. i agree with 9 am. any earlier is being rude. and while we're at it-don't run your leaf blower once it gets dark. my other neighbor did that one night and we thought he was drunk.

I would totally agree with you that a little bit of common courtesy would dictate that 9am would be a suitable time to mow your lawn, at the earliest. The majority of people are up and at work by then so minimising disturbances and upseting the neighbours. If my next door neighbour decided to mow the lawn at 7am I know that he would be inundated with complaints as he uses an old petrol driven lawnmower which is so noisy that it even drowns out the TV when the volume is turned up to the maximum.

If my neighbor fired up his mower at 7 am on a weekend I would probably walk over and rip off a plug wire or something. I'm with you...7 is WAY too early. Nine is ok, and I would even go so far as to say 8 am would be fine. It sounds like your neighbor is obsessive about his yard. If your neighborhood has a charter check it out. It's quite possible that he's breaking the rules mowing that early. If that doesn't work, maybe try a polite chat. Tell him you work nights and it really disturbs your sleep. Good luck dealing with the lawn freak! lol

Actually, I think that it doesn't matter much what time one mows the lawn. What does matter is being considerate of others. If you have neighbors that could be disturbed then yes, 5AM is a bit early. 9AM seems to be fair. When I was growing up my mother would not allow my brothers and me to go outside before 9AM and we were not allowed to call anyone prior to that time. It is just common courtesy. You wouldn't think you'd have to tell someone this but have you spoke to your neighbor about this?

I think 9am is reasonable. Not everyone is on his schedule--some work all night, some have small children who might be sleeping at 5am. Even construction crews don't start much before 9am in residential neighborhoods! Isn't there some noise ordinance he's violating?

I find a way to get annoyed no matter what time my neighbors decide to mow their lawns. Usually I have a baby attempting to sleep, or I'm attempting to sleep, or I'm on the phone or something. But I too would probably say 9am is early enough.

I would say that your right. personally, and mind you i don't have the problem of lawn care as I'm in an apartment, i would wait until 10 am to mow my lawn. that way if its during the week on a day off i happen to have then i wont be risking irritating my neighbors with the sound of lawnmower waking them up. on the weekends i would wait until at least 12 or so and then mow my lawn. That way if anyone is trying to sleep in then I'm not disturbing them.

It seems like the "standar" time is 9 o'clcock in the morning! :-p I mean it is better to start after 9 o'clcok. I have heard of some people say nobody will complain if you start it after 9 otherwisem before that it's not quite resonable. I don't know it is true or not :-p

Hi snugglebunnies, you think a lawn mower is bad, try listening to an oil filled strimmer. We don't have lawn mowers here as it's not lawns as such, the grass shoots up to neck height pretty quickly after the rains though. As it is so very peaceful any noise carries and the sound of a strimmer first thing is awful, but in the summer it's too hot to do work like that during the day. I tend to get mine done in the evenings but feel guilty about the noise carrying. I'm definitely with you on 7am being too early though, here the workday world as such starts about 8am.

i think anything from 1 a.m to 8 a.m too early to be mowing the lawn. it sucks that people mow the lawn early but what can you really do. you might can talk to them but that might start some beef. i had one neighbor that was mowing their lawn at 11 p.m its really annoying i was thinking you couldn't do that earlier! it was pretty dark outside but they had there back light on.

Is 5 am a little bit early, you should basically call the cops for that. maybe it's his way not to be seen by any one. possibly shy of some sort..

i understand how you feel, we have neighbors who mow their lawn early in the morning too, just like yours, annoying really!! I found 5 am is definitely not tolerable! 7am is personally still too early for me, but probably not for others. sometimes i have days where i wanna have a sleep in too..
