Do you follow directions?

I usually do but for some reason when it comes to laundry soap and fabric softener I can never stop at the "full" line. I always add at least 1/2 cup more laundry soap and not quite double the amount of fabric softener. When we got our water softener (we had super hard water) we were told that we could save money on detergent and such since we wouldn't need to use as much as the instructions say, but for some reason it's like I don't trist their small amount (double concentrate detergent and fabric softeners) to really clean like advertised. I hate to think about the money I'm wasting this way, but it's like I can't help myself. Anyone else have this problem?

No way. I'm not about to waste that much product. I use up to half as much as the recommended amount and it works fine. The amount they tell you to use is for their bottom line, not your laundry. In other words, if we just use what they tell us to, we'd be buying enough to make them rich and our laundry wouldn't be any cleaner. As a matter of fact, it would probably be dirtier because all that detergent couldn't rinse out and it would attract dirt faster.

No, I have been using less and less laundry soap. If there is still soap during the last rinse, then you can add less. I use 1/4 cup for a large load, the new laundry soaps are so concentrated that if I use more than that, my skin itches. Even when I use sentfree and hypoallergetic brands. You could save soooo much money by using the correct amount of laundry soap for your washer. Use a permanent black marker that works on plastic on the inside of the cover or find a smaller container to pour the soap in once you figure out how much you need for the average load that you do.

I actually go the other direction. If I don't think the clothes are very dirty, I will use less than the recommended amount. I wouldn't use more than the amount - I assume that the amount they recommend is the amount needed for a really full, really dirty load.

I make my own laundry detergent at home and I found I would fill the measuring cup almost to the top no matter what measuring cup I was using. I solved the problem by getting a measuring cup that was the right size. I think the companies that make the detergents know that we tend to do this and that is why the cups are always bigger then we need.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I've done laundry enough times to know how much soap I need, so I decide based on the size of the load and how dirty the clothes are. I rarely even look at what they reccommend. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I think I'm pretty good at following the recommended amounts on the laundry detergent, although sometimes it is hard to see the line on the cap I measure into. Don't use the liquid fabric softeners, so don't have a problem with that.
