Umbrella, rain and errands

Having an umbrella when it is raining - Running errands in the rain, without an umbrella

This is an easy one: I'm currently at work, and I have to do some errands on my lunch break today. Unfortunately, it is raining outside, and it's ugly. I have to ship a box so I may get wet lugging it from the parking to the shipping company. Even if I have an umbrella in the car, I still won't be able to hold it as the box I'm shipping is quite big and bulky. Question: do you still bust out an umbrella when it is raining outside? Do you like running errands in the rain without an umbrella? Do you keep one in your car?

I prefer a rain jacket or all weather jacket to an umbrella, or maybe an oilskin jacket if it is cold. All of them are good against the wind too, and as it is really windy here sometimes that's quite handy. It is partly due to the wind I never us an umbrella. When it is really windy, they only get ruined. And if they're not ruined, I tend to forget them somewhere or my father takes them or some friend takes them so a rain jacket is easier to find when I need it.

Hi Torunn. You are absolutely right that people just tend to take umbrellas when it's raining. Even if it isn't theirs. Thanks for dropping by.

In most things I'm like a guy but with this I am a girly girl. rain messes up my hair so I wear a rain bonnet Plus I use a umbrella! I don't mind if my body gets wet but Not My Hair!!

Hi sarah! I think I had classmates in high school who had the same feelings about rain and hair.

If its raining hard, yes, I'll definitely use an umbrella. I use to always bring one in my bag, but now I keep forgetting it..thanks for reminding me.

Hi, bounce58. I can see that this will be an challenge for you. When it is raining outside, I do grab me an umbrella if I can get access to one. I don't keep an umbrella in the car with me, not unless I am at home and it is raining. I will go back inside the house to retrieve an umbrella. I don't like running errands when it is pouring down and raining. I like to run errands when it is very dry.

Thanks cream97. I wish I could also do my errands when it is sunny out. Or at least, not raining. But in this case, I had no choice. Thanks for responding.

I honestly probably own at least 3 umbrellas and never use a single one of them. My 3 1/2 year odl daughter on the other hand won't get out of the vehicle unless she has her Dora umbrella - so I'm not sure where she go that from. I do like that she uses it tho. More than likely I always have a hoodie in the car... so if what I'm wearing doesn't consist of a hood, or I don't have my coat with me or whatever, I'll just throw that on and flop the hood up and do what I have to do! Geez bounce! Stop whining! haha I'm kidding I'm kidding! :) I hope you got your box shipped safely and as dry as possible! haha

Aww c'mon! The backpack isn't so bad! Its even a boy - along with the map! lol Jos likes Diego too - but Dora and Spongebob seem to hold her attention the most! lol Spongebob is a hoot! You just can't help but laugh :) And dont' worry - I'll keep on posting ridiculous things... one of these days you'll feel so inclined to rant... your fingers just won't stop! haha Dont worry, you'll be as cool as me someday :) lol

Haha! I'm definitely whining. And I tried ranting. But apparently, I don't type fast enough and I'm not too good at it. Unlike some people I know?! I don't know what Dora has, but she seems to have power over 3 year olds. Even my son would run to the Dora stuff when we're at Toys R Us. I bought him a Boots stuff toy once, but I refused to buy him the Dora backpack that he wanted.

umbrellas - umbrellas aren't just for the rains; it is for protection from the scorching heat of the sun as well
Hi Bounce, I always have an umbrella with me. It is the folding type and I always carry it inside my bag. So, I don't run errands WITHOUT an umbrella because I am always ready with one. Umbrellas aren't just for rains here. It is too hot at times (especially at noontime) that umbrellas are a big help. Yes, we also keep two umbrellas in the car.

I see that you are from a tropical country moneymakingtoday. I guess, it is but normal for the culture to also use umbrellas when the sun is hot. And it's nice that you have a folding type. For girls, they can always put those in their bags. Not for guys though.

hi bounce well I am in a pickle here as my umbrellas are in storage and I am not, so i am here as usual in Gold Crest, the lovely; not, retirement center, without an umbrella and next week we are to have continuing heavy rains.will probably do a lot of mylotting next week around the various programs we will still get this month.feb. no more programs, older people are not needy according to the garden grove school district. I always said the younger people all feel we should just blow away on the wind or disappear someway. lol lol lol.

Oh no, not yet Hatley! Don't blow away yet. I bet you still have lots to share to relative newbies like me here in myLot. But if you ever disappear, I hope that it would be by your own choice, and that it may take you to far away exotic and exciting places!

If it's a package, I'm going to get as close to the curb as possible, and if I have to run in, set box down and ask the clerk to watch it while I park, I'm going to do that. Yea, Maybe it's annoying to others, but if it needs to be shipped I don't want it to be anymore damaged then it needs to be. As for umbrella's, yea I'd go without one maybe, but then again it depends on where I'm going and how presentable I need to be AND if I forgot to put an umbrella in the car.

True, and by the time a person managed to pick it up you'd be there to say "HEY PUT THAT DOWN!" and hope to goodness you don't get knocked over with them "putting it down"

Now why didn't I think of that? For sure, the size of the box(big and bulky) would prevent anyone from stealing it. I wouldn't even have to tell any clerk if I left it on the curb while I parked.

Hi there bounce :) Does anyone like running errands in the rain ? : I guess not :P I would keep an umbrella in the car if i had one of course, but since i don't yet, the answer is no. I do go out in the rain and run errands but I DON'T LIKE IT :D. Sometimes we have no choice and we have to do things that we don't like as well.

That's just it elitess. By itself, errands are already dreadful to do. Add rain, and it's even worse. But, like you said, sometimes we have no choice.

Hey bounce! I don't mind running errands in the rain in the Spring or Summer! But, in the Winter of Fall, not so much! I hate using an umbrella anytime because in NY it is usually very windy and an umbrella doesn't help! I also don't even have a car so all my errands are done on foot and by public transportation like waiting for a bus!

Oh Opal26, that would be worse. In public transportation while it's raining outside. I bet you have your share of horror stories, like grabbing, and stench, and long waits, etc. Thanks for responding.

i run when the rain is not yet heavy and have umbrella when i am not carrying heavy bags and so far if the rain is so heavy i prefer to stand by for awhile and wait toll the rain drop before i go. i rarely bring umbrellas i prefer to have a hoody instead or just a waterproof jacket and umbrella i bring it when their is a typhoon and in normal days i bring none at all.

Thanks amyson. I agree that bringing an umbrella is sometimes such a hassle. I'd rather have a hoody too. Or, like you said, just wait a little bit for the rain to let up.

I do keep one in the car, but the main time I use it is at football games or if I have to walk an entire parking lot to get where I'm going. If I can make it in a quick dash I don't bother.

Hi J. But there's your operative word, quick. I don't think I'm that quick anymore to avoid getting drench even with just little rain.

If I have an umbrella I'll use it. Otherwise if I have forgotten to take it with me I just don't mind getting myself wet in the rain. I always try to take one with me during raing season.

Well, is it rainy season at where you at Rajitharamesh? If it is, I hope you always bring your umbrella.
