April 15th has come and gone and now President Obama tells me that he Cut taxes 25 times and I should be thanking him! I got out my 2008 tax return and found that I made $2,000 more in 2009 than in 2008. My taxes according to the president should have gone down. They went up by $1,000. How is that a tax cut? Or was he just making up talking points like he did with the Stimulus Bill?

You know perfectly well that your gross income is only part of the story when it comes to figuring out your taxes. Is it your gross income that went up, or your adjusted gross income? Did your deductible expenses go up or down? Did the sources of your gross income shift? (For example, did you work as an employee last year and as a contractor this year, incurring self-employment tax?)

I based it on my adjusted gross for both years and the total tax owed. My deductions were very close to what they were the previous year. Understand that my income and deductions have been fairly consistent (with in + or - $3,00-$5,000) over the years and the the total tax owed has gone up or down a little with the change. This year it was 50% of the increase was tax. It does not seem right but my accountant it was the new tax tables.

your kidding right ? the man is doing all he can to bring this country down, my medicare went up 73.00 and since because of the new rules i had to pay a doctor 2500 dollars out of pocket " before medicare" just for a surgery because the new laws dont pay doctors for discussing your op with you. hey i voted for the american not the muslim and as far as im concerned the sooner he's gone the better and i dont care how he goes as long as the coward is gone. thats what u get when u elect someone with no experience, or nohow about the runnings of the president of the u.s.. and now that u have me started that s.o.b. isn't going to cover our boys when they get out of the military with the v.a.

I have not seen one good thing he has done for the US. I am afraid of what is yet to come. I am afraid for the future of my children. I mean some of the things he is saying and trying to implement are just ridiculous. I am tired of him always apologizing for the US! Has he done anything good for the US? If someone knows please tell me.

There were no tax cuts. He is also trying to claim that the stimulus package was a tax cut, but it wasn't. 0bam is a liar and a fraud.

Bob, do you how many people in this country aren't making a fraction of what they did last year? I am like you, and were able to make more money this year than last year. But, there are millions of Americans that wish they could say they made as much as last year. I am sure if you ask Americans if they would be happy to net a $1,000 increase over last year, which is what you did, the vast majority would like to be in your situation Bob.

Are you saying that I should be happy with a 50% tax on the "extra" money I earn? If that is the case what is the point of working more or harder? I could stay home and spend time with my family. It seems the message we are getting is hard work is going to cost you more and more so don't work as hard. I was not brought up that way but is seems that some feel it is alright to steal from me and give to people who won't work. Many of the [people I know who are unemployed are working for cash and with the Unemployment extensions are willing to work for cash making close to their post tax income. I have to pay them twice if I hire them to help me.

When you put a a double talking snake in office this is what you get. Bravado that doesn't pan out and new laws and taxes that hurt the common folk. He may have cut back on some taxes but he has increased our budget in a disastrous fashion (to put it nicely) and we will all suffer the fall out from it as will our children and their children.

You have a very valid point. How are we going to pay for all this? YOu know taxes are going to have to up to for all this...On all of us. ALOT.

I am in same boat. I pulled out my last year tax returns and looked at it too. I paid more (not a whole lot) but still I paid more. Where was the tax break or tax cut because I sure did not see it.
